My dog is a chihuahua and eats Purina dry food. Recently though,
he isn't eating as much anymore. Please help.

Change the food. Get a fresh bag and throw that one out, and get something like Royal Canin for chihuahua (made just for the breed) which is a tiny kibble that doesn't have wheat, corn or soy or all the fillers and by products that Purina has. You can gradually change over from the Purina blend to the Royal Canin.
Some dogs thrive on Purina and other brands, but since yours is not, better to go with a different brand. Besides, I wouldn't trust any product with wheat or wheat gluten in it, canned or dry, until the FDA and Dog food industry can announce the exact cause of illness and death in pets due to food. I have heard of dogs getting renal failure when eating dry kibble from the same brand name product that wet recalls were from.
When changing your dog's food you can add a few spoonfuls of pumpkin pie filling which eases their digestive system when a dog is stressed, like when changing their diet.
I just don't trust it. If you really want to be sure, you can cook for your dog but do a web search to make sure the dog is getting a diet balanced for his needs.
Then you know EXACTLY what is in your dog food.

If someone was trying to feed my Purina dog food, I think I'd go on a hunger strike as well. Why not look into getting a quality dog food with quality ingredients like Merrick, Canidae, Innova, Timberwolf Organic, Solid Gold, Eagle Pack Holistic, or Wellness? Many of these can be found in your local pet store, others can be ordered online with some offering free home delivery. Your dog will thank you.

I don't know, I haven't asked him.

Take him to the vets if you want an answer, because no one on Yahoo can provide it. The vet will ask any other symptoms? Any different behaviour? More quiet, lethargic? What's his water intake/output like? What are his stools like? A vet will also perform a physical exam, which no one on here can do, which will help the diagnosis.

If eating a bit less is literally the only symptom, I wouldn't necessarily worry. Could be the weather. You could try changing the diet, see if he likes another one better - check the recall list first. But if he shows ANY other symptoms - vets, before it gets worse!

It is possible he is sick and may need to be examined by a vet. Or maybe nothing is wrong and he could just use a little more excercise to stimulate his appetite. Try taking him for a long walk or let him run around in the park. If he is usually active and won't run around, you may need a professional opinion.

He may not like dry food anymore, as dogs age they stop liking certain foods just like people.

he may be stressed or ill if youve changed your routine or his he could find it a real stress.. take him to the vet .or try petending to eat some of his food from his bowl before giving him his bowl this will tempt him and also if he doesnt eat it within 10 minutes take it away.. its not cruel just reinforces your status as his pack leader see Jan Fennels amichan bonding techniques www.janfennel.co.uk

VET VET VET VET VET!
I currently have a foster who will not eat and he is in serious danger from losing so much weight so quickly. Their organs will shut down without the proper nutrients and in a small dog this will occur sooner. My foster now has a feeding tube in which I must use to feed him is he does not eat on his own. Please if you love you dog, take it to the vet. If you don't, you chance harming its chances for survival.
