has gotten real real bad and is always in trouble. I was wondering if any parents have used Adderall for ADHD and the results.

I used to think he was just a active kid but now it is absolutley a mess he cannot sit at the tabel for a mel he gets up at least 7 times and then runs his hands along the walls and after maybe 30 minutes he hasnt eaten anything. At night it takes forever for him to get his pajamas on and brush his teeth. He keeps interupting his teachers~hes not in school just speech therapy right now~but it is really interuping his class. Im not looking for a cop-out i really think meds would help him. I always said wait wait wait but I dont know anymore. His diet is fine he is very picky and does not like sweets or bread he will have a fruit pop every once in a while but thats about the hightest sugary food he eats.

Your not alone....my son as ADHD (has had it since age of 4), he is 11 now. I had him a Ritalin (it was the only one that he didn't act out on), now he is on Ritalin La (a time release) and regular Ritalin (after school). The things you stated that your son was doing were some that I saw in mine. Talk with your doctor and it will be trial & error until you find what works with your sons body & system. Keep a log/journal day by day of what your son does & doesn't (this will help the doctor help you). If you decide to start meds, keep a journal also on that and compare to see if the meds he is on are working..Hang in there it does get better..

I think 4 is too young to diagnose as ADHD. My friend was convinced her son was ADHD, but now that he's 6 he's outgrown some of the behavior and is better able to control his actions. She's very thankful she didn't start medicating him. I don't think kids should be medicated until they are at least 7 and other attempts at solutions have been exhausted. My friend's son was on Adderall, he lost a lot of weight, would have to drink Ensure just to keep going, and some days he seemed like a zombie due to the effects of the drug. Ritalin was even worse for him. I know it works well for a lot of kids, but I personally feel it should be the last resort. Good Luck.
P.S.- There is a book about how what you feed your kid can cause ADHD symptoms and it shows how to modify his diet. Mostly you don't feed him processed foods with lots of preservatives. It's worked for a lot of kids. I think it's called The ADHD Solution, or something like that.

The teachers at my sons school thought he was ADHD and I thought it was a cop-out. But I put him on the Adderall and it made him a zombie so I took him off. He is fine now. However, my nephew takes it and with him it makes him normal and bearable to be around. I can tell when he has not had his meds. So, if your son TRULY has it, it will help him behave better and do better in school. Take him to his peidatrician and talk when him and voice your concerns. You are his mother and have right toask as many questions as you want. If you do not feel that he is giving you good enough answers the geta second opinion. I hope this helps!!!

4 years old is too young to start medicating your child! Give him a chance! Its normal for young boys to be hyperactive. Try teaching him behaviors and skills to help him cope and deal without medication.
I've personally taken adderall and had family members on it. Adderall can help to get improvement in school and such but its at the cost of personal growth through learning to deal with your problems and also through the cost of giving up a piece of your personality.

Have you taken him in for testing to confirm he is ADHD?? I had a teacher for years who tried to get me to medicate my son for ADHD.. I refused, and thank God I did. He never had ADHD, he is ODD and they don't medicate that. It's a totally different plan. He displayed symptoms similiar to ADHD... but I didn't trust the teacher... or the doctor I took him to who wanted to medicate him after ONE 15 minute visit.
After extensive testing, including testing for learning disabilities it was found he was not ADHD at all. I thank God I was wise enough to get him in to a real doctor who actually knew something about ADHD and other childhood problems and knew the correct way to diagnose it. Not medicate first and see what happens.

Ritalin and Aderall causes strokes, enlargement of the heart, and heart attacks. It's not good for kids at all.

Try regulating his sugar intake. His diet might play a role in his hyper-activity.
