No, it's trading bondage for freedom.

Most people that have earthly addictions only do so because it gives them satisfaction only on the surface level.
Jesus however fullfills something deep within us and was meant to be. Therefore embracing Jesus for the right reason deep down is not like a drug addiction. (although there are many parallels) But if people embrace Jesus for the wrong reason, then their heart isnt in the right place and their percieved accomplishment of faith was in vain and destined to fail.

No. Jesus sets one free from addictions so that you can live a full and well balanced life. Addiction can cause you to lose jobs, friends, money, etc. With Christ life is better in all areas. Jesus causes one to grow not regress.

I don't think that being addicted to Jesus is a bad thing. Jesus really isn't that hard to find, all you have to do is go to church and get saved. There is a difference between a positive addiction and a negative addiction such as drugs.

I suppose one might say Christians are addicted to Jesus but here the effects are positive.
Jesus came to give us life and that we may live it abundantly.
He makes my day ! He makes my life ! He makes my eternity!
I want more of Him !
I have never heard of someone whose life was destructed by Jesus. Have you ?
The relationship with Jesus is a relationship you can't understand until you have tried Him.

To answer your question, yes, I think religious addiction is real and very sick. Especially when the fanatics brainwash their children into being intolerant, conceited hypocrites.
People use god for a lot of things...
Preachers use it to get $$$, leaders use it to control people, and parents use it to guilt their children into "being good."
Being a thinking individual means understanding that god is what you think he is...

Oh come on! Even the most die-hard atheist has got to see an advantange in dropping a life-threatening addiction into one where, at worst, you do serious damage to your knees whilst praying!

Psychologists have done such a study actually! The subconscious mind is then preoccupied with Christianity and releases endorphins as if alcohol or drugs were being used.

Could be, depends how far people take it. I sorta think beliving in Jesus is a substitue for believing in oneself, but religion does have it's place in the world. A lot of people take comfort in it and are not ready to give that up yet.

Never, for the one, "finding" Jesus is putting forth ones hand and being pulled from the depths of hell into the light of life. Big difference. Ponder it for just a moment.
