No, they wouldn't all fit in the same suit. Joking aside, the important thing is that he attends, don't you think?

Do you want him to? Many brides decide to have the groom's vest different from the groomsmen's vests. The father's vests can be either the same as the grooms, the groomsmen, or completely different.
I had the fathers in the same as the groomsmen but with different boutineers. But yes the dad should pay to wear the same suit. He should not cause problems for the bride--she has enough people giving her hell. Just tell him to do it and shut up. Why doesn't he want to? Does he have a reason? My dad didn't want the silver vest cause he thought it would make him look fat. But he didn't decide this until 3 weeks before the wedding and they told him it would be $50 to change his order. That convinced him to wear what I picked out!
But find out why he doesn't want to. If the bride doesn't want him to, he doesn't have to but it is her choice.

Weddings can be a pain in the butt not only for the couple getting married but also everyone else involved in the wedding. You have to pay for your own suit, shoes, etc. and you're not even the one getting married. Anyway, to answer your question; yes, he will probably have to pay for a suit so that it matches what everyone else is wearing.....I know; it sucks.

Yes, he is technically also part of the bridal party, and will be walking you down the aisle. He should also wear a tuxedo. If the tuxedo store offers a free tux with the rental of a minimum number of tuxes, you and your fiance could choose to let your dad get the free rental, and the groom can pay for his instead.

My father, father of the bride, wore a silver tuxedo, the best man and ushers wore black. I am sure the father of the groom has the same privilege. That answers one possible question here.
The other, should you expect your dad to pay? Yes. If not him then who?

When I got married my father paid for his own tux rental, as did the rest of the wedding party.

You don't give many details.. is everyone else buying their suits or hiring them? Of course if everyone else is wearing matching suits he should too. If he's got no cash then you should sort him out or if he's too cheap to buy one, then he can go in his pyjamas :o)

My husband and his men wore traditional tux's, my father and father-in-law wore their own black suits. For the sake of info, my ring bearers cried trying on their tux's so they wore black pants and crisp white polo shirts and they were so happy! If you are really picky make him get it, if you're laid back like we were let him wear his own suit if it's nice.
