Tomato is not shiny or smooth. They have little hairs on them and grow up. Cucumbers are shiny and grow out.

Cukes to start out have 2 Little lime green rounded leaves--a dinky mater has a little arrow shaped leaf, dark green with a dinky long stem the size of a small toothpick, it has little niches in the sides of the leaves.
Use a big spoon to move around and get lots of dirt--keep the cukes at the same depth but you can put all but the leaves of the tomato in the ground and it will give it a stronger base. Good Gleaning

Best thing to do is to rub a leaf between your fingers. You'll get a very strong odor on you fingers. That's the tomato plant. You won't smell anything if you do the same thing with the cucumber.

Tomato plant leaves are larger and the stalk is a tiny bit fuzzy. You can also tell by the smell - tomato plant leaves have a very definite earthy/green smell.
What, no lettuce:)
