What do you make of this?My daughter,16,has for the last few months been telling me she hears someone walking across the landing late at night & stopping outside my door. She said she hears nothing after that.On some occasions she has heard them actually walk up the stairs, across the landing & stand there.I asked her how she knows they are outside MY DOOR & NOT HERS-as my room is next to hers-she said she has seen the shadow & can see where they are stood.I am an extremely light sleeper-anything can wake me-yet i`ve heard nothing. Many times this has happened. At first i thought she might be asleep or imagining it-all the usual stuff-but now my son,15,has told me he has heard it too. His room is sort of in the middle of the landing,& he said a few times he`s heard someone walk upstairs, walk across the landing,& then stop near my door somewhere. He hears nothing after that.He said he doesn`t tell me when it happens-next day whatever-coz he doesn`t want to scare me.I don`t feel scared-but...

We all sleep with our doors open and i`m always last to bed, i turn everything off. My son is a very quiet lad and never really has much to say, so it doesn`t surprise me that he said nothing. I don`t know what to think....I know they say teenagers can attract ghosts/spirits - whatever - but 2 of them....?

I expected some smart remarks. Look, my daughter does not need to talk to frank - she is not on drugs - don`t even suggest such a thing. And to the ones who think it`s funny - i can assure you it isn`t. This is not a real person - the doors and windows are locked securely. Let me tell you something else - i suffered 2 strokes last year before this started happening - and i had a near death experience. You can mock and i will ignore you - i am reading serious answers only. I was hoping someone might have a little inkling.....

As mentioned in my profile i live in a wood, so my house is locked and bolted to heavens high and i have outside lights at all sides. My mother died in this house, but that was 8 years ago. This has started happening since i had a near death experience last year. The thing is-i cant even watch ghost movies-i`m too scared-but this doesn`t scare me at all. It`s weird but i just don`t feel scared. My daughter, on the other hand, has started going into her younger sister`s room sometimes and getting in the spare bed, coz she says it freaks her out.

OK, first things first... To everyone who decided that this is funny and thought it was ok to mock this - grow the hell up. And live by the old, but very true, addage:-if you can't say anything nice or useful, say nothing!
Now...to answer the question. To me it sounds as though you have either of the following:
1 - it may well be the spirit of your mother
2 - it could be a lost soul, someone who is having trouble passing over and your place is on the way
3 - as a couple other people suggested, could be a guardian angel.
What I would do is cleanse your house. This involves using a sage stick, lighting it and then putting it out to create a plume of smoke.
Firstly, you need to open ALL doors and windows.
Then, starting at your front door, waft the smoke into each corner of the room. Work in a clockwise direction and make sure that you do not miss any part of your house out.
As you are doing this, say - either aloud or in your head - that you are ridding your house of any negative energies and that only those who would enter in perfect love and positive energy may enter from now on.
Once you have covered the whole house, take the sage stick outside and bury it.
This will ensure that anything harbouring a negative intent will not be able to enter.
This can be done once a month, or whenever you feel the need.
Hope this helps.

Well it could be a peeping tom...I had a childhood friend tell me she saw a man standing outside her windows at night and I thought she was making it up at first but then her mom caught the guy staring through her bathroom window....very creepy. The guy across the street ended up moving and it never happened again. Maybe you should call the police and find out if any of your neighbors has a bad criminal background?

I have had that happen just once and I remember freezing in my bed after I;d shouted out my sons names (hubby was on nights at time and i do get scared by noises etc). I saw the shadow against the door frame which was illuminated by the landing light. I cant explain it because the boys WERE in their beds. I even wondered if it was my cat but that wouldn't have created such a shadow.
It did scare me and I cannot explain what it was.
I am a believer in spirits etc so I have put it down to it being that because no one had broke into the house.
I don;t think your kids are messing around. Sounds genuine to me. this may sound extreme but have you considered sleeping in your daughters room and staying up to listen out??? Then when or if you hear it open the door ?
I never used to believe in spirits and ghosts until i saw a spiritualist. Now I know they exist.
Maybe you could see a spiritualist too? ( a good one with good reputation)
I have only seen one spiritualist in my life and prior to seeing him I was sceptical. I am not anymore as he reeled of dates and things that no one knew. He reeled off to me the exact date my boyfriend died in a motorclycle accident and said his name. That really did send shivers down my spine.
I am not convinced a security/night light will help.
Having read your last bit about your mother and your near death experience I believe it's your Mother just checking you are okay. It may be the near death experience that triggered it. Get a good spiritualist in your home. But don't give any info about yourself and see what is said. You may be amazed. try not to be scared as this sounds harmless.

Well, Im scared. So, is anyone there? If not, consider that it might be emotional stuff from your son and daughter-unconscious activity working itself to the surface. Has anyone died or left the family home in the last year? if so, then I would read it as bereavement anxiety. If there is no practical reason , then you have nothing to lose from Spring cleaning the house's atmosphere, rearranging things, even painting and decorating, changing the energy, playing happy music around the area, opening doors and windows, bringing in fresh flowers and growing herbs. If you have a garden, pick sage or rosemary and let bunches of it dry on the landing area. I have a feeling something is bothering your son and daughter though and that you will resolve it by opening up the channels of communication between the 3 of you..

If the spirit or force is not hurting you or your kids then maybe it is a loved one who passed away coming back to check on you. Have either of your kids seen anything or just heard the footsteps? I know it must be scary, but since there isn't much you can do, and no one is actually entering the house (it's not an actual person) then I would guess that you have to learn to live with it until it decides to make contact with you. I mean you could get a parapsychologist come in and set up equipment to try and make contact, but that would be a lot of money. You could try and get a photo or sound recording of it, but again, it won't change anything or solve it. You could try to talk to it, but since it seems to only be heard by your son and daughter maybe they should try and talk to the spirit?

I can not imagine what that must be like for you. I would be teriffied. If i was you i would try and get a priest in to determine whether or not it is in fact a ghost, if it is they will be able to get rid of it. It may be a guardian angel watching your door as you have had a near death experience. The other alternative is to move house but what ever you decide to do goog luck.

sounds like you have a spirit there hunny. myself and my family had the same kind of things happening to us. things got that bad that we ended up moving to get away from it. things in the house would go missing and be found some stupid places. the final straw was when an object flew off the side in the kitchen and injured me. we didn't want to tell anyone in case we got the same negative comments that have been made on here. i suggest you look for a local spiritualist medium that does what they call a cleansing. we had to go through the process as when we moved, whatever was causing the problems in our new home followed us here. i truly sympathise with you on this one. not only do people end up thinking your on drugs or going crazy, they are ready to try and have you put in the nut house. don't suffer this sweety, get some professional help from a spiritual medium. best of luck. kind regards xx

I don't really believe in ghosts. I think you should set up an alarm so at a certain time in the alarm will go off at anyone who walks on your landing. A video camera might be better because then you will have proof if someone walks on your landing and you'll know who it is. If it's to much money then I would try to stay awake at night. Ask your teens what the time they usually hear it at and try to stay awake to hear it for yourself.

Firstly, I feel sorry for the idiots who think its funny to post stupid replies on here, have they got nothing better to do?Anyway, if you don't feel scared then I wouldn't worry too much about it. I do believe in ghosts and spirits because when my grandad died my mum and I used to feel as if someone was breathing on us in the house and things were moved about in the house sometimes. I was young and she told me that it was grandad coming back to check we were ok and to let us know he was with us. Perhaps telling your kids something like that would stop them from being scared? If nothing bad is happening then I personally wouldn't get a vicar to get rid of whatever it is. Hope this isn't upsetting but maybe if you think of it as your Mother letting you know shes with you, perhaps that would reassure you? Hope this is of some help.
