If this law was in force, don't you think there would be quite a few less 2nd offenses.

It should be much stricter. Jail time should be in months, fines should be very high, and you should lose your car and your license. If the consequences were severe maybe people would think first. And if your going to a bar you should take a cab or arrange a ride with someone.

I know someone who had 6 dui's before he went to jail, if he'd gone longer the first time he probably wouldn't have done it again. He swears now he's not going back to jail and doesn't drink and drive anymore.

No. I think a weekend stay as a guest of the county, fines, and some mandatory classes or counseling would be sufficient. It's a first offense and should be a learning experience.

Now if there is a repeat offense, throw the book at'em. I've always felt that flogging should be brought back for just such occassions. It beats all the expense and hassles of jail time and whatever else they do to you. You get 10 lashes, you won't be making a 3rd offense. Especially if you know offense #3 carries a mandatory penalty of 25 lashes!

I think it should. I think if it was more harsh or strict on the 1st account, then maybe it MIGHT do a little good. However people are still going to drink & drive no matter what, but they don't realize they could really kill someone with that automobile and that's something they will never EVER be able to make up for.

Should be more strict but it won't do any good. I know alcoholics with no licenses, 10 dui's and they drive everyday. some people just don't care about rules or other people

Upon conviction, I wouldn't have a problem with a mandatory jail sentence, one that could not be bargained away.
