I've never thought of atheists as "trying to disprove" anything, but rather making comments on the wrongs they see in society, which all thinking people do. Religion has done a lot of harm to society and to individuals, and everyone has a right to speak out against these wrongs.

There is no God, and it can be proven.
According to Relativity Theory, the rate of change of time can be increased or decreased according to the speed of an object. This means that time slows down the faster you move.
If something goes faster than the speed of light, then time goes backwards.
Therefore, if we use logic, we can conclude that it is possible (in theory) to go back in time to the point where the universe was "created", and we would have something (the object) created from nothing (the universe pre-creation).
Therefore, the only thing that theists have left to argue (creation of the universe) is disproved, and therefore God does not exists.
Another test, using pure logic this time:
In order to argue this, we must define "god". This definition is simple: an omnipotent being which is worth worshiping.
Now, to test this, all you must do is pray to "god" and ask for something... anything at all... and give it a week or so to observe results. If something happens, then you may conclude that there is a "god". If nothing happens, then that means one of two things:
Either 1) God exists, but does not care
or 2) God does not exist.
Since "God not caring" makes "god" not worth worshiping, it therefore is not a god.
This means that if nothing happens after making a request through prayer, that god does not exist.
I can tell you that i have asked for many things, big and small, and not necessarily materialistic in nature.
The more I learn about in sciences (im in university) the more I see that the concept of a "god" is ridiculous.
There is no "god".

It doesn't matter if it can't be proved that god doesn't exist, what matters is that the gods of religion who are trapped within ancient books CAN be proved unreal. They are confined to a history that is depicted in those ancient books and therefore have restrictions because of it, and because of that they are disprovable. The Christian god for example has been disproved over and over again, but since religious ignorance knows no bounds it is easy for Christians to deny the logic, reason, rationality, and historically verifiable evidence both direct and circumstantial, to allow them to continue to believe the nonsense they choose to. But occasionally some wake up from their religious stupor. I did, and they can to.

By helping to advance human intelligence by getting rid of the fairy tale god, some Atheist are doing more than many scientific researchers.
Humanity will be better off once belief in god is finally left in the past.

Yeah you can't disprove a negative anyway. I agree it's a waste of time. You have to prove something, not disprove it. That is an attempt to be tricky with words.
Go ahead and disprove an infinite number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin, while your at it!

I don't think Richard Dawkins does try to disprove there is a God, he just can't find any evidence that shows God does exist and nobody else seems able to provide it either.

Well... you see... disproving the nature of an illogical omnipotent creator being goes hand in hand with the logic of science and other paths of learning, also in hand with putting an end to people trying to turn the U.S. into a theocracy based on a contrived book written eons ago for another race, in another time, etc. when not everybody even agrees on said philosophy, etc.
In plain English? We have our reasons.

Even the funding for and legality of the advances in medicine and scientific experimentation (HPV vaccine, anyone?) seems to depend on someone else's interpretation of a holy book. That's a major reason why atheists get angry.

atheist arent trying to disprove god. they arent relying totally on god for everything. like growing food instead of relying on food from the sky. you freaken christians are some of the craziest people trying to prove there is a god even though you havent seen him personally. make sense right! god must hate his son to have him die for mans sin, he cant just forgive people like humans do. something like a baby drops a bowl of soup, son you gotta die to clean that mistake of what the kid did. i would hate to have a father like that. since i cant teach these stupid people, even though im the most powerful being in the universe, and even though i made these humans but ill have my son die, yes i cant simply forgive them by saying i forgive you humans. makes alot of sense. also since before my son, i couldnt teach these humans my laws so ill kill all of them and all living creature even though im the most powerful being in the universe. ill let 2 of each animal live and 1 family that can actually learn and understand what i say.
