Revelation 2:10
Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.

It seems that way. There is a huge difference between causing suffering and allowing suffering. The fact that God allows suffering goes way back to when Satan rebelled. Humans are being allowed to rule or govern themselves. And doesn't look like we are doing too good, eh? This is showing how the world is with Satan as its ruler. Until God intervenes, no one knows when that will be, there will be suffering. But God in no way takes delight upon all that is going on in the world, i.e. The VA tech massacre that occurred today.

God loves us and does not like to see his people suffer. But it is the sin of the world that causes suffering. When people start sinning and offending God he tolerates it in His infinite Mercy for a long, long time. He sends His Mother, the Queen of Prophets with a message for mankind to Fatima, Portugal. She appears to three little shepherd children. The children saw that God is terribly offended by the sins of humanity, and that He desires each of us and all mankind to abandon sin and make reparation for their crimes through prayer and sacrifice. Our Lady sadly pleaded: "Do not offend the Lord our God any more, for He is already too much offended!"
The children were also told to pray and sacrifice themselves for sinners, in order to save them from hell.
Implicit in the Message of Fatima is a warning for all Christian countries. The sins and offenses of people and their countries call down justice from Heaven, and they must repent and return to God. If they do, they will have peace and will avoid the chastisements of enslavement, annihilation, war, and famine. However, if they do not reform themselves as true Christian countries they will be chastised in a terrible manner.
When we reject the Fatima message and other pleas from God to change our ways we open ourselves to more suffering, war, chastisement. God with his 'ultimate power and infinite kindness' does send us warnings but we blissfully disregard His warnings.
God cannot be cruel because He wouldnt have suffered as He did while He was on earth. He shared in our sufferings and in our poverty. He could have easily escaped it all and lived a lavish lifestyle. He could have chosen a lighter death sentence. But He didn't. Lets not grumble against an Almighty God but rather change our ways one person at a time.
God Bless.
Here is the Fatima message if you are interested.

God allows suffering for the same reason that He allows free will. If He stepped in every time and prevented a tragedy, then we essentially have no freedom to choose between right and wrong.
Our first human parents disobeyed God in the beginning over this same issue -- they wanted the knowledge of good and evil. And they got exactly what they asked for. . .instead of living a life of peace and safety, they learned all about suffering, misery, and death.
God let them make their own choices, and He still does so today. We can either choose to do good or do evil. Nothing new or different about that in this world, as the events of today have proven.

You may be talking about Jesus whose followers will give you sainthood if you make sacrifices and endure sufferings.
The God that created the world I know made animals and people complete with all the resources he can get for his food and covers for his body and roof over his head. He also gave them intelligence to make the world a beautiful place to live. Man is even allowed to create his own environment for his amusements and joy. You have your Free Will I know. So if you suffer at this time perhaps you made a wrong choice out of that free will given to you. God did not design your life, you make your own decision as to what direction of life you will go to. You create your own destiny and don't blame God if you did not reach where you want yourself to be. Maybe you took the wrong route.
The savior you are calling really won't help even if he can because he knows you have to try to help yourself first. Do it on your own. Even the real God will only clap at every step you make. He will give you strength to stand up and go on if you will but will not give his hands to lift you or walk for you. So don't expect God to be what you want to be. He is expecting you to be what you want yourself to be.

God does exist! He loves you very much and does not want you to suffer! The devil is the one that comes to kill, steal and destroy. We Christians are God's hands on the earth and a true Christian will exude the Love of God and will help a fellow man whether he is saved or not.

Do you think that I can answer this question in a few words? If you really want the answer many people of various religions have written on the subject.
"In Isaiah 53, he writes of the coming Savior to be devoid of beauty that would cause men to find him attractive; he was to be despised, rejected, and chastised; he was to be oppressed and afflicted; and eventually he was to die. In short, he was to descend beneath everything—all of this that he might know how to save us, how to redeem us, and most importantly, how to empathize with and love us totally....
Before leaving his disciples, Christ gave them a new commandment—to love one another, not as in times past with the qualification “as you love yourself,” but “as I have loved you.” (John 13:34.) Such a love is born out of compassion, a total understanding. It may well be that only those who undergo suffering can fully empathize with the suffering soul. Only those who go down into the depths of humility with a broken heart and a contrite spirit can fully understand the Master and the path he trod. Therefore, in times of suffering perhaps it is faith we need, rather than rational understanding. Perhaps our prayers should be for strength to bear up under the burden rather than to have the burden removed. (See Mosiah 24:13–15.) Perhaps the road we may have to tread through suffering leads ultimately to important discoveries of the soul. " - Art Bassett

I don't know what I believe anymore. I tried to be Christian, but just couldn't handle both the cruelty of the Biblical god, and the lack of logic in the Bible. But I find I can't be a total atheist, either.
I hope there's a god(dess), and I hope he/she isn't anything like that rat-b@stard in the Bible.

interior the understanding of solid and Evil...that's what we chosen. to describe could take a minute so please wait and notice. Perfection is what all of us started with till we chosen corruption. Evil is the separation of God from guy...slowly progressing extra and extra aside down for the time of the years. nonetheless yet over that element He has commonly used pathways to Him so as that each individual individual must be saved from this horrendously mortal international and introduced from dying and all that involves right into a 2nd and very final appropriate lifestyles with Him. The earth has long undergone cycles of absolute barbaric evil. suitable formerly the flood and could lower back suitable formerly the top of this earth...all of that have been marked by skill of the mass slaughtering of youngsters which..is the epitome of absolute evil. yet, we've all of His rules as commonly used with Hebrews out of Egypt and into the recent testomony..we've all the warnings of the prophets..we've the organic consequences that ensue with our evil selections, etc...yet that's our propensity and could till that final individual of religion contains Him and there are not to any extent further. Then that's going to end. dying, violence, conflict, ailment, famine, plagues, imperfection and strife. we are choosing now and asserting to God..."i do no longer choose wisdom of solid and Evil. I purely choose the innovations of Christ." So in case you opt to know what this is...bypass for the time of the purple letter Bible and view His words...once you come again the section the place Jesus prevented a woman from being stoned...take a seat lower back and contemplate that for a 2nd. you don't know God's relationship with that woman...what with regard to the guy filming the clip or the individuals stoning her to start with. surely? What be indignant at God for what mankind does to a minimum of one yet another while Christ gave His existence and replaced into dealt with lots worse so as which you would be waiting to bypass to that solid dying and look ahead to a time for absolute organic and holy perfection. What could you have performed to assist that woman had you been status there? Genesis 3:3 yet of the fruit of the tree that's interior the midst of the backyard, God hath pronounced, Ye shall no longer eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
