My sister-in-law has two little boys with the worst cases of excema I have ever seen. The 'rashes' on their faces and arms are so dry they have cracked and bled and are basically huge open sores. The cream their pediatric dermatologist gave them isn't working- any ideas?

I personally would slather on Vaseline. Sometimes the solution is more simple than one thinks.

Try eliminating junk food from their diet and get them on a super healthy one.

What goes in comes out one way or another.

I have really bad eczema too and what I try to do is to keep oiled all the time, do not let it dry out. Use a thick cream or Vaseline and this should prevent the skin from cracking. DO NOT scratch the area this only makes it worse. When they go to sleep put a lot of oil on the area wrap it in saran wrap or a sock or something that will keep the moisture in.

First thing to do is stop using the creams. They may stop the itch for a while and may heal up the eczema for a bit but it returns. Buy glycerin based products, soaps and lotions. Try reducing the intake of cow's milk, goats milk is better but getting past the taste is another thing. I don't have an answer for that.
Now mix up some oatmeal with warm water to form a paste and gently rub it on the eczema leave on for 3-4 minutes and rinse with cool water. Try to keep the eczema cool heat makes it worse. I have eczema myself and this has worked for me.

Shea butter. Look for it online. It comes in a big block and needs to be melted with mineral oil. Then you can put it in your own containers and it is like a waxy substance. I swear by it...works very well for my excema. I had some that got cracked like you are saying and it cleared up with a few weeks of usage.

I am not sure if this stuff works or not but, I do know that this product has been around for a few years so it must work or it wouldn't still be on the market...go to this site http://www.freederm.com/ and check this out. I read it when my son first got eczema and would have purchased it if the oatmeal soap and Aveeno/Lubriderm slathering had not worked. Good luck and God Bless!!

Tell your sister to inquire about Arbonne the baby line.
It's really gentle and has helped even people with adult eczema -

Don't use any products with petroleum in them (this means vaseline, mineral oil and baby oil) contrary to what people believe - these products dry out and harden skin not help it.
