I have 2 female cats who are both neutered. They use the cat flap appropriatly but a local stray tom keeps coming in and eating my girl's food and spraying all over the place.I have had to resort to locking my cats out as I have a one year old child who plays on the floor. Help.

Why the heck are you letting your cats roam? Shut the d@mn door.

you can bu cat flaps that lock automatically and only open when your cat goes to come in .. it comes with an activation collar that you put on the cat.. sure you can get a flap with collar then buy a spare collar for your second cat ..
That way you keep the toms out..

one question though are your girls spayed???.. if not the smell of them will be attracting the males.. females when left unspayed also spray and that can smell just as bad as the toms....

I would lock the door when the cats go out, then unlock the door when the cats want to come back in.
If you don't want to do this get a litter box for your cats so they too will not be bothered by that cat, keep the cats inside. Even though your cats have been fixed he will chase them.
Do you know the owner of the cat? If you do I would call the owner!
I would not trust the Tomcat around my child. Don't take any chances. I would get your cat's a litter box and keep them in the house. Just to be safe

There is one sure way, but it is a bit of hassle and probably not cheap....

You can get magnetic cat flaps, where your cat wears a magnetic collar (no it doesn't make them stick to anything metal) which activates the cat flap when they are near, allowing them to get through it. Other cats can not therefore enter.

OK I just checked them out online and they're not expensive at all:

OK that's an English site, but you get the idea for prices. Just type 'magnetic cat flap' into www.google.com and you should be able to find some for your area. They just fit like regular cat flaps from what I can see.

I'd go for it with this, it's pretty much the perfect solution - you won't have to shut your cat in or out, and no other cats will be able to come in! Sorted! There are sprays that are supposed to deter cats from urinating, but there's no guarantee they work - this will.

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing!

Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

You can go to (probably) your local pet store or (almost certainly) an online pet store and buy a pet door with a security feature. The door will be essentially the same except that it locks automatically after the cat/dog goes out. The cat, in your case, will wear a small transmitter on it's collar that will unlock the door when the cat is within range so that the cat can come and go as it pleases. Any cat/dog/burglar or whatever that doesn't have such a transmitter is locked out.

Good luck!

You can get cat flaps with magnetic catches. The cat wears a collar with a small magnet on it that unlocks the flap as it's head gets to it. Any cat without a magnet and the flap stays locked.

Change out your current cat flap for a flap with a collar magnet. Only the cats with the special collar can get in the house.

Electronic pet doors could be a solution for you. there is a sensor on a collar that lets only your cat in and out the door locks when your cat comes in and out. it is a bit costly but with the problem how much is it worth to you. it's around $100 USD you can find them at the big pet stores like petco. Good luck.

the first thing that comes to mind is those flap doors that only open when an animal is wearing the collar (sensor) and it helps keeping other animals out.... i'm not sure on the pricing but it may be ideal considering the circumstances and the child.
