calories are calories no matter where they come from (except alchohol). plus its better to eat your food than drink it. and if 500 calories is all you are planning on eating - you will end up gaining weight since you will lose water weight and muscle in the beginning and gain fat.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

Either way your consuming 500 calories, but you'll probably be hungry and be lacking a lot of essential nutrients. In addition, fruit juice is high in sugar which is very bad for you, and it causes you to gain fat.

not really, they are empty calories, they provide no benefit to your body, some calories actually ARE good for your body....and just how much fruit juice and mints is that?

Calories are Calories.

The only difference is that you aren't providing your body with the mix of intake that it needs in order to function properly.
