I am going on an airplane for the first time and I don't know what you can bring and what you can't. I would just like to know the items like necessities and other items that you can bring and that you can't bring.

Basically you can bring anything on the plane that won't be considered a weapon. Check out the TSA website for the specifics. The only thing that there is a restriction on currently are liquids so pack necessities carefully....

Have a great trip!

Attached is a link to the FAA website that provides a full list of items allowed (and restricted) on board an aircraft:

Hope this helps!

Check out the tsa.gov site if you can before departing.

3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3 ounce bottle or less; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure.

There are specific rules regarding size and weight of luggage, and what items you can actually carry on. See the web site for any airline - there'll be a link with information.

Here's the US Transportation Security Administration's website with their list of permitted and prohibited items: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm If you're traveling into or out of the UK and Europe, the restrictions are slightly different.... metric for one thing, and 100ml bottles (3.4 oz instead of 3 oz in a one liter bag 20 cm x 20 cm (8" x 8") instead of one quart 8" x 7.75").
If you're traveling in the US, I'd go with the smaller size bottles just to be safe, but the metric size plastic bag should be OK. Check the British Airways website: http://baa.com/

Australia started their program restricting liquids and gels on international flights on Apr 1 2007..... they even require lipstick and chapstick to be put in your plastic bag. http://www.dotars.gov.au/transport/security/aviation/LAG/index.aspx
