A 12 month old should be saying "mama" and "dada" with meaning. In the next few month he/she should start saying a few other words such as "wa-wa" for water or "ba-ba" for bottle or cup. By 21 months a baby should have around 20 words.

In a book I read like a bible *what to expect when your expecting* it states Most kids will say at least one word until after 14 months.

I work with children on a daily basis. From my experience it depends on the child, every child is different. On average a 1 year old should be saying between 10-20 one syllable words at that age. Maybe fewer maybe more. Dont get too caught up into your childs stage..they will catch up if they are not at the stage they should be in.My first child didnt say anything until he was 3 and is just fine now.I hope I helped.

it all depends on the baby, really, i spoke in full sentences when i was 9 months old, my 8 month old says da da, mom, hey, hi, poop, ba ba, and Hi mom. My nephew didn't say anything but no ma ma and da da when he was 12 months, as long as he/she babbles like ma ma or da da everything is fine. If not you may want to talk to your pediatrician

This is my first pregnancy and I got pregnant at the age of 17. I really don't know, but they should be saying enough that you can kind of comprehend what he or she is trying to say.
