It can take 6 to 8 weeks for iron tablets to be absorbed into the body.

it depends how anaemic you are though. Who diagnosed you? If it was your Gp then he would have prescribed iron tablets if you were that bad

I am anemic, I just found out actually. My doctor did a blood test amoung a hemacult test to check for internal bleeding.
most anemias have underlying causes. Mine had to do with IBS plus the fact I had 10 pound children 20 years ago and both times I was pregnant they told me I was anemic but did not give me iron supplements. I now take a drug called Nifrex 150 available over the counter. There are many drugs over the counter for anemia. Replivia is another one for the iron difficient anemia. But I urge you to go to your doctor and have a complete blood test run to see exactly where you are with this disease. Also if you go to the Mayo clinic site that will describe each kind of anemia maybe that will be more helpful to you. Good Luck Lori

How do you know you are anaemic? Has the type been confirmed, there are 3, iron, folate and B12. Which do you have. Consult your GP and get proper advice as to how you should proceed.

If you are anemic you MUST BE UNDER a DOCTOR'S care!!! As you need weekly or bi-weekly blood tests to see if you're improving. You also need to be on Prescription anti-anemics, not OTC products and not self-medicating!!! You could do much more harm than good!!! There are several types of anemia and only a doctor or Nurse Practitioner can care for you!!! You could DESTROY your liver, etc by self-medicating!!! If you are poor then go to the county medical center they will treat you for free and you will not harm yourself and you'll get the proper treatment!
I URGE YOU (BEG YOU) TO GET PROPER TREATMENT!!!! Best wishes, Aunt Barbie

Simple answer: I don't know...anemia can be caused by several factors, low iron is only one of them.

Good answer: Go see you doctor, have a physical, then ask him/her how you can beat it.
