As they don't seem to understand the differemce between road and pavement they should be made to run across a four lane motorway. Then they will understand.

I don't cycle on the pavements, I cycle on the roads or the cycle paths......perhaps you could equally come up with a fair punishment for all the knobs that walk straight into the path of on-coming cyclists on the roads & for those that walk along the cycle paths instead of keeping to the pavements.....do you have any idea how suicidal some people are when it comes to crossing the road? if they can't hear a car coming they just step straight out looking up in the sky, reading a book, chatting on the phone, etc; etc;.....anything but look first.
Sometimes the bloody cycle paths are so full from these idiots, we're forced onto the pavement to be able to get around............I swear the next time it happens, I'll just cycle straight into them......they'd get hurt a lot worse than I would......

Eveybody should be able to go about their business safely pedestrians cyclists and motorists.
I think an adequate punishment would be to give them a dedicated cycling lane. A discount whenever they do business where there is car parking that they don't use. An an award for reducing their carbon emissions and saving petrochemicals.
Then the health benefits are reward enough for most of us.
If you don't want cyclists on your footpath/sidewalk/pavement why not try lobbying your local/state/national government to provide the facilities that are needed (desperately) to make this world cleaner, healthier, and safer.
Any cyclists out there try to give pedestrians a wide berth and at least slow down when you approach them (dismount if you have too). We need support not enemies.

If it is a group of cyclists they should be in the road. If it is just one, usually they get out of the way by going in side of street or the other side out of the way -- usually grass or whatever it may be. Now if they are rude and disrespectful and harassing people yeah make punishments for that. And have it one ruins it for everyone else and have them ride only in streets or designated bike trails. Zero tolerance policy, it only takes one to ruin it for the rest and maybe then they will learn a lesson.

You are right.
That said, many bicyclists are afraid to drive in the road. Have you noticed how some people drive? Who can blame the bicyclists? If someone hits them, regardless of fault, the bike rider is going to get the short end of the stick. Bike lanes help, but only if the drivers don't ignore them, which many of them do. Until all people start driving like civilized people, some bike riders are going to ride on the sidewalk. It is simple math: they are going to get hurt less running into a kid than getting hit by a truck. I don't blame them.

Hide in the bushes and put a stick through their front spokes. A couple of cases of road rash later and they will definitely think twice about even riding a bike again.

I despise people like you, you obviously don't ride a bike, I'll agree that young kids riding too fast on the pavement is dangerous, but if you have no lights, or don't want to get run over, then its fine - as long as you are courteous to pedestrians.
OAP's electric wheelchairs are also vehicles - they never give way to pedestrians - should they be banned as well? man with all the answers...
Stop being such an antisocial fool, I bet you walk a dog too heh? Cyclists hate dogs! Dog owners never give way on bridleways and are always letting their dogs crap all over the place - should they be banned from pavements too? heh?
What about alchoholics? They get in the way on the pavements too!
As a matter of fact so do large groups of people, perhaps they should be banned too?
Immigrants? They fill up your pavement as well I bet!
Shall we get rid of them too?
People like you just want to hate in order to cover up your own inadequacies...get a life!
Ps. Maximum respect to 'Rella' and 'Andrew p's' answers also!

Tell you what...
You go armwrestle the whiny pansies that come on here screaming about "those damn bikers taking up MY lane in traffic!"
In fact, go beat each other senseless and leave the riding to us.
