No, just go to an after hours or any chain store. They will fit him without a problem... if you can try to go to the same brand store were the guy is getting the tuxes from. It takes about 3 min to get measured so most places don't care.

Is it a chain? My groomsmen got theirs at After Hours and they each went to the afterhours near them (one in Mi, one in NJ) who puts the info into the computer and the After Hours that they are going to pick it up from (the wedding city) orders it. Thats why you use a chain--you don't have to go to the exact same one you plan on picking it up at.
Typically you pay for the tux when you order it so in their cases they both paid for it at the fitting.
If the bride and groom did not pick a chain store, and you have to go to a completely different store--how are you picking it up? You need to call the store and ask them how to deal with it b/c they usually won't order it until they have payment. Perhaps they have a sister store that they do business with that is in your area. Many places do and you'd never know that was their sister store if you don't call them.
If not, go to an upscale place like Saks and try on tuxedos. Then you can ask the sales associate if that is a proper fit. Write down what those measurements are. Waist, inseam for the pants, and the jacket size. As long as you are in town a few days in advance, small details like arm length can be taken care of last minute.
No you don't tip them. But yes if you use a chain you will pay for the tux at the fitting, not actually pay for the fitting but pay for the order. That way if you never show up to pick up the tux--they have still made their money.

It depends on the tuxedo place he goes to. Some charge a relatively nominal fee ($5 to $10) - some won't charge at all. It all depends on their policy. When my husband and I got married, we had several out-of-state groomsmen as well. Two had to go to a tuxedo store other than the one we were using. One was charged and one wasn't. I do not recall the stores they used, so you'd be better off calling around to find out.

It will depend on the policies of establishment. I don't think a tip will be necessary. (but nice if they don't charge). For a fitting you can go anywere that rents a tux (of course) most dry cleaners also will get measurements, or a taylor or dress maker in your area.
You may wish to contact the establishment that they are renting from, some have a form the want filled out for out of towners.

Someone will have to actually pay for the tux rental in order for the business to place their order for it. The fitting is part of that fee, but you need to get it clear from the Groom who is paying for it. It will be kind of awkward for your bf to me measured, then they lead him to the cash register and he has no $ or intention of footing the bill. When I got married the first time, in 1985, and had tuxes, bridemaids dresses etc. the groomsmen paid for their own tux rental, as their gift to the groom. I don't know what the etiquette is now, but back then when you asked a groomsman or bridemaid to do that for you they assumed by saying yes that they would pay for theit tux/dress. We made a point though to get the tuxes from an affordable rental place and the dresses came from JCPenney outlet.
OK in re-reading your question, I think you should tip the person, as the tux is not actually coming from there and they are reaping no benefit from your measuring appointment otherwise.

Usually the place where you rent the tuxedo will alter it to fit. Your best bet would be to have that done before you travel. besides, the place that rents the tux to you will probably not like the idea of someone else doing any alterations, you could be liable in case they decide there was damage to the tux itself. Besides, alterations can be done rather quickly, look up a tux rental at the town where the wedding will take place, in the few days prior to the wedding you can have that done with no sweat at all.
Hope I understood your question right.

I don't think that he will have to pay to be fitted at all. As long as it seems as though he were going to rent his tux there, they will probably just go ahead and do it. lol... did that sound underhanded?
Or, he could let them know what is going on and maybe as a courtesy, he could tip them a few dollars or find out if they charge a small fee for that. Depends on which way you want to handle it, but It doesn't take long at all to get fitted, just have to find out the waist, chest, and shoe sizes, then try the stuff on. Guys are easy to deal with in wedding stuff! :)
Hope that helps... :)

No, its free. My brother lives in Denver Co. and i live in Ca. I was fitted here for free. Mens Warehouse will do it as well as Selix Formalwear. Just include a measurement card for the groomsmen, it will be easier.

Yes. Of course. No one works for free and their work should be tipped too.
Good luck
