Under 1200 calories a day is not enough. If you are female and trying to lose weight, stay in the 1200 - 1500 a day. Anything below that will put your body in a starvation mode and your body will start storing the fat rather than releasing it.
Foods will list the calories in them or you can find many calorie lists on-line. Salmon and shrimp are very good for dieting, but you may want to limit the shrimp because it can lead to gout in some people.

Hello! What is their reasoning behind the 1200 calories per day? What benefit does it provide? In my opinion, you need to eat to lose weight. Be very careful with diets that limit your caloric intake. 1200 is below basal metabolism. This means that if you were to work out, and consume 1200 calories, your body could not and would not go into a caloric deficit, because there are no nutrients there to begin with. You first need to estimate what your BMR is. Then decide how much and how hard you are exercising. There should be some sort of calculator on the web for this. This will help you figure out just how many calories you need daily. Consuming 1200 calories will cause you to lose a bit of water, glycogen stores, and lots of protein via muscle. You will probably end up gaining it all back. I hope this helps.

Who is everybody? 1200 calories a day is not generally considered enough calories to maintain your weight and is too few calories to lose weight in a healthy manor.
All food packages are required to list the calorie content of a serving and you can look online or get a calorie counter book from your local bookstore.
Fish is an excellent source of protein and steamed vegetables are great. Don't forget complex carbs (granola, whole grain breads and pasta, etc) and fruits. Smoothies are a great way to start your day or a healthy snack.
Eat multiple meals (4-5) per day to maintain a steady glucose level. This well help you to lose weight.

there is no way you should eat that little calories - thats about how much people in coma get!!!
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

Under 1200 is too little. Your calories to eat are determined by your weight. Consult your doctor to determine what amount of calories is best for you to lose weight safely. If you eat too little, then it's all going to be stored as fat, so find out what's best for you by a professional.

no no never eat under 1200 calories. That is the least amount you should eat. But you should actually do a calorie analysis to see what your recommended calorie intake is rather than, falling prey to weight gain after weight loss.
Check out the site if you need a calorie anaylss. and check out bhg.com for calorie anaysis on all foods.
