Hyundai is rated #3 in the world for initial quality by JD Power and #7 in the world for reliability by Consumer Reports. So, this isn't your fathers Hyundai that had all kinds of problems in 1989. The Sonata is a very nice car and you should definitely get the V6 since its only like another $1100. There's a reason Hyundai is already the #7 seller in the USA, they build really good cars that people want!

I purchased a Hyundai Sonata two weeks ago from Carmax, and I have to say that so far I am very pleased with my choice. I got the LX V6 model with leather interior and sunroof, and I have to say when I drive with the sunroof open I feel on top of the world. I love it. It's a smooth ride, quiet when idling in traffic, and has a lot of power under the hood. I read of the comments left behind by the other posters to your question, and I have to say that the Hyundai that they are talking about is not the same Hyundai that they make today. I drove a Geo Prizm before buying the Sonata and I drove the brakes off of it, and I never had a repair bill larger than $300 or $400, and that was to fix engine problems which everyone knows can be very costly. I have the feeling that I will be very fortunate in the maintenance of this vehicle as well. And that is one thing that you have to take into account with any vehicle that you decide to get, the maintenance cost. I was approved for the Mercedes C-230 coupe--which I LOVE. But once I started to estimate potential maintenance cost (an oil change would have been in upwards of $70) it was going to be more than my monthly car payment to just drive this car. So I opted for the Hyundai Sonata which had gotten excellent reviews, and I'm pleased with my choice so far. Btw, the Hyundai Elantra is a hot little car. I looked at that one too, but I needed more room. But either one would be a great choice, just look beyond the monthly car payment for any car that you purchase and decide wisely. Good luck and happy driving.

Drive both, the Sonata is a bit nicer, bigger, more money than the Elantra. I liked the Elantra, but bought a 2001 Tiburon, which was the same engine & size as the elantra in 2001. Have 110,000 miles and love it.
Hyundai has has the 10 year 100,000 warrenty since 1999

I just bought a 2007 Elantra, which I love. It gets better mileage than the Sonata. The Sonata is bigger and rides a little bit smoother, but I would choose the Elantra all day (I test drove them both).
However, as previously mentioned, that's what test drives are for. Go test drive both and you will know what you want.

I have 06 sonata which is pretty much same as 07 sonata, and I love it. it almost has 10k miles on it, so far I love it. it's really smooth and really quiet. I have the v6 model, so it has good power. elentra is a good car. They have earned good reputation past few years and I don't think they lack in quality compare to other makers now. if you are thinking about getting either elantra or sonata, you won't regret it, but you should still test drive all the possibilities.

I confronted precisely the comparable decision a three hundred and sixty 5 days in the past, and that i chosen the Sonata. particularly if the Sonata has the 6 cylinder engine, you have become plenty extra vehicle for the comparable funds. you additionally can purchase a protracted warrantee out to one hundred,000 and you will nonetheless pay under the recent Elantra.

Civic/Accord are of the same class as Elantra/Sonata respectively. Drive both and see for yourself.

both are good products, but the Sonata is by far a better choice. You can not beat the ride quality, interior feel, roominess, or warranty -- for anywhere near the price

consumer reports give them a good rating. Test drive them both and see which one you like. I own a 05 elantra with 55,000 miles on it and no problems. Use to have an 05 civic-very disappointed with it-sold it
