Catholics are Christians. They believe in God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the list goes on. There are things that every denomination will differ on. The Catholic church along with Lutheran, Episcopalian, United Methodist, United Church of Christ, and Presbyterian USA are all liturgical churches. That means they follow the full Christian calendar. It starts with Advent (preparation season for Christian), Christmas, Transfiguration Sunday,Lent (with Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday falling in the last week of Lent), Easter, Ascension day, Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, and Christ the King Sunday. Not every denomination outside of the liturgical churches will follow this.
There are many Christians that do not believe that Catholics are Christians. You need to sit down with your girlfriend and figure out what she believes is actually against Christianity that they follow. There are many misconceptions about things. Example, Catholics do not worship Mary or the Pope. That is so far from the truth it's actually funny to me.
Figure out what she disagrees about. If you actually had a fight with her about this, you may differ on religion more than you think. I'd figure out how different you really are and find out within yourself if you can deal with the differences in a relationship or not. Religion can bring couples together or it can tear them apart.

You mean the Protestants and Catholics, since Catholics are Christians. There's really no major difference between Protestants and Catholics on any of the primary issues. Both believe in the Trinity and the need for forgiveness of sins through Christ. They differ on some secondary issues, but not any more than Protestant denominations differ between each other.

Some definitions of "Christian".
1) Relating to or characteristic of Christianity; "Christian rites"
2) Following the teachings or manifesting the qualities or spirit of Jesus Christ
3) A religious person who believes Jesus is the Christ and who is a member of a Christian denomination
People of other Christian denominations other than Catholic like to say that Catholics aren't Christians. Catholics might not fit THEIR definition of what a "good" or "proper" Christian is, but they are believers in and followers of Christ, so therefore they are Christian.
(For those who say they don't properly obey the Bible, I could point out a hundred points of the Bible, that THEY don't obey, either, so they have no right to be judging anyone else.)
Those other Christians really need to get over themselves.

Christianity is the umbrella term that one can use to refer to all the sub-beliefs (ie: Catholics, Baptists, Lutherans etc..) where the practitioners believe that Christ was either the son of god or spoke the "true word." I believe that Catholisism (spelling is compeletly wrong) is generally believed to be the original form of the religion while smaller sects of people broke off. One example are the Lutherans who believed that it was wrong to depict idols in church, among other things. Or the Church of England (Anglecans) which was created for King Henry VIII to get a divorce.

Hello,
Well! Catholics believe in Mary, Confession, the Pope, Purgatory, the Catholic Mass, The Bible vs The Church, Faith alone, Baptism, Statues and idolatry, Saints Relics, Rosary.
Christians believe that the bible is the inspired, inerrant word of God, and that its teaching is the final authority. Christian believe in one God that exists in three persons, the father, the son, and the holy spirit.

what people are not getting is that the spirit of christ and antichrist are working side by side, one opposing the other in the church. that antichrist spirit takes you into false doctrine and produces an illigitimate child that claims to be christian but only persecutes and many times kills his true christian brother who tries to correct him with the word and right doctrine of christ but he just can't understand to his own destruction. the evidence of this was seen in the dark ages and protestant reformation. also cain and able, esau and jacob, judas and Jesus, and joseph and his 11 brethren
