It seems that eggs are taking longer to boil now than they took fifty years ago. Used to be 3 minutes, now anything over 6. How long does it take in your locality ? Are eggs different in different parts of the world ?

Bring the eggs to room temperature before boiling. Then put them in boiling water for one and a half minute and take them off the fire but keep them in hot water for five minutes and you are home.

For soft boiled eggs that are perfect for dipping those toast soldiers into I drop two eggs only into plenty of rolling boiling water for 3 minutes. I turn off the heat and let the eggs sit in the water for just the amount of time it takes to spoon a bit of the boiling water into the eggcup, maybe 5-10 additional seconds. Gives the yolk nearest the white a little time to get gooey but not enough to cook.

Haven't had those in a while. Almost lunchtime. Yum.

Depends a lot on how big or small the eggs are and how much water you boil then in. I like them the same as you so I suggest that if its a medium size egg just cover in cold water and bring to the boil. Then allow 2.30 to 2.45 mins befoe removing from boiling water. A large egg will require 3.00mins. A small egg about 2.15 mins I think that you will find that doing it this way will make a perfect egg for you.

4 to 5 minutes from the time you put the egg in the boiling water.

It depends on the size of the egg. A small egg 3 mins is good. medium egg I would say 4 mins A large egg 5 mins and a very large egg 5 and a half to 6 mins.

Got to have with soldiers!

I place the egg in a pot and run it under the hot tap, from cold water, and then bring to a boil. Reduce heat until the water is gently bubbling for exactly 3+1/2 minutes and they are perfect.

the main question is do you put it in boiling water or in cold water.

I always do them in cold SALTED water (yes it does make a difference). Bring the heat up under the cold water in the pan with 1 or 2 eggs in it and once it is boiling - proper boiling in bubbles, count 3 1/2 minutes for a large egg, 3 minutes for a smaller one and it will be perfect soft boiled.

It depends on the size of the eggs. I usually buy large eggs - they weigh 65 to 73 grams (2,25 to 2,5 oz). I soft boil them to perfection in 4 minutes & 20 seconds. The smaller the egg, the shorter the time, of course. F.ex. I would give a 2 oz egg just under 3½ minutes. I put the eggs in the saucepan with cold water, and bring to a boil under a lid. Then I remove the lid, and reduce the heat to medium.

it takes 3 minutes for a hard boiled egg. i would imagine 2 minutes would be enough to have the white hard and the yolk still runny.

Depends on the size of the egg too. I usually cook my eggs between 5-6 minutes.
