When you read the bible, first ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the word of God. Then you must read the bible in its entire context. Then you must also have a guide. This guide is the Magisterium which was entrusted by God to interpret the bible. If you do this, you will discover that the bible has no contradictions because God never contradicts Himself.

I assure you there are no contradictions in the Bible. We often misunderstand it, or misinterpret it but no contradictions.
One thing that will help tremendously is a good Study Bible. I highly recommend the Ryrie Study Bible. It comes in the NASB NIV, and KJV. The NASB is by far the most closet to the Greek, and the NIV is the easiest to read. They have helpful outlines and notes. Expect to pay from $30-$50 depending on where you get it.
Also you may want to get a good commentary. I recommend the "Bible Knowledge Commentary". It has 2 volumes and cost about $30. That will get you a long way down the road.

It is impossible for an unsaved person to understand the bible. When you read the bible as a Christian, you should ask God to give you understanding. The book of Proverbs is a book of wisdom, read it. I would suggest you read the new testament and start in the Gospels, Matthew, Luke , Mark and John. If you go to a good bible believing church, you can learn much about the bible.

Get a set of commentaries. People skip that part.

Remember, you are reading a translation from an ancient language, from a (probably) distant land, from a long time ago. People were brought up differently.

So get commentaries. Go to a second hand store or the local Christian book store. Those people were trained to decipher the texts. Multiple commentaries means that you can check the different authors for inconsistencies and leanings.

There are no contradictions in the bible. Since I don't know which specific parts or books you refer to ,I can't give an explanation. Some of the laws that were obeyed in the Old Testament were ruled unnecessary once Jesus came onto earth. Then it was about salvation and accepting Him as Savior rather than following religious traditions.

The bible is nothing if not a book of contradictions. It is a bunch of nonsense written by primitive men. You are just going to poison your mind reading that drivel.

The old testament is a picture of the new.

i.e. the sacrifices etc. in the old testament were a picture of what Christ would do in the new.

The passover, spreading blood on the door post is a picuture of us applying the blood of Christ on our lives. etc.

Hope this helps, if you study with this in mind I think it will help you.

Also there is a book called the scarlet thread, written by Richard Booker that would really help you I believe.

The Bible is God's written Word to us. There are no contridictions.

It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:20-21. (New International Version)
