All religions are dangerous or potentially dangerous regardless of interpretation but aggravated by extreme interpretation.
Needless to say, islam is the most dangerous of all.

Is it not more dangerous when religions are left open to interpretation by only a select few individuals who will dictate these decisions to the masses?

It can be. But I would say that it's more dangerous to society as a whole to have an attitude like yours.
Perhaps you would be more comfortable in Communist China or the junta ruled Myanmar where the government controls everything and tells you what to think?
I would be willing to contribute to a fund to buy a one-way ticket for you.

It is more dangerous to leave a very narrow opening for interpretations as it may lead every one to a blind belief.

i asked my born again friend that very question this morning. she said the interpretations are due to different levels of learning. example - when she was atheist, she didn't understand any of the bible. then as she learned, she would interpret different passages differently. and tomorrow she may read them differently as she educates herself on their meanings through going to church.
so yes it is dangerous when you think about everyone's own interpretations. "thou shall not suffer a witch to live"

It's the brain-washed / brain-dead believers that are dangerous, believing in unproven religious beliefs and false promises...
Here's the Solution and will NEVER be mis - interpretated:
Create a private, personal, direct, divine Relationship with Our Creator and save your Soul from religion.
Only with Our Creator's Love and Peace will we be Truly Free!
Love and Believe in Our Creator;
Love and Believe in Yourself.
"religion is Spiritual fraud"; "religion is the Worse invention of humanity" - Jesus Christ, Buddha and any one else with Spiritual intelligence.
Without God, there is No Love; Without religion, there are No Wars!
atheists = all the people in religion

Is it not just as dangerous when one person decides what many should think and feel... I believe that is what Jim Jones did and look what happened.

Yes. just look at what happens with all of the fundamentalist protestants. Some are really cool people and some are using the Bible to justify all sorts of nasty intolerant extremism even including racism.

How is allowing anyone to interpret their own divine relationship dangerous? It is everyone's birthright to find God or their own understanding of their life. If they choose to follow someone else's interpretation that is their choice.
God is infinitely more capable of talking to creation than man is at understanding God.

Free agency is essential to God's plan..Meaning anyone can do believe what they want so long as it does not interfere with anothers free agency.. This is the original purpose of our founding fathers who formed this nation.. So like your free to worship rocks if u want..However you are not free to sacrifrice me to your rock as you would now be violating my free agency..
