Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of Christianity. Of himself he quoted the Psalms and said:
The stone which the builers rejected, this became the chief Cornerstone; this came about from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes. Matt. 21:42
You all know what happened to Jesus a week later.
Peter later said the same thing about Jesus, in the Book of Acts. This is followed by Acts 4:12, which reads "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."
Christianity stands or falls on the bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ - fully man and fully God.

Ephesians 2:20 informs us that the church is, "built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone." If the apostles and prophets were the foundation of the church, are we still building the foundation? Hebrews 6:1-3 encourages us to move on from the foundation. Although Jesus Christ is most definitely active in the church today, His role as the cornerstone of the church was completed with His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension.

Not what but who? Jesus is described in the Scriptures as the cornerstone. We serve a risen and living Jesus- He is not in the grave as others are. God has raised Him up as both Lord and Christ and has put Him as head over all things on earth and in Heaven (except His Father, of course).

Jesus is that chief cornerstone:
Ephesians 2:19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.

Ah, herein lies the problem. It is not one thing. "The Thing" is Christ dying for our sins and being resurrected. The point of which is nicely summarized in John 3:16. But there is so much more: Compassion, Social Justice, sharing, loving and respecting our enemies as well as friends, the Golden rule. If one looks only at the Resurrection and fails to heed the lessons in Christ's teachings then that 'one thing' is pointless.

the cornerstone of christianity is Christ. All christians believe that Jesus came from God to save the world from sin and death. hense the name CHRISTian.
you can believe God exists without being a christian.
and a lot of things about Christ himself (such as, if he was the son of God...all that surrounding the trinity and even if he was perfect) is very much debated among christrian groups. but they all agree that he came from God and to save the world.

Love
Mat22:39 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the prophets hang on these two commandments."

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Without that, there is no Christianity.

After being dead three days, Jesus gets up and starts walking around like nothing ever happened, then he rises into the sky and becomes a god.
Earlier he had told them he would send a sacred ghost to keep them company until he gets back.
About a week after his departure, they all convene a meeting; and the sacred ghost shows up, only it's Jesus' uncle wearing a sheet.
He serves wine and muffins, and pretty soon they are speaking a language they don't understand.
These are the basics of Christianity. It is truly glorious.
