I dont think so. I was going to buy a new laptop but didnt want vista. Bod at PCWorld told me that once Vista had been installed it was near impossible to remove it.
So here I am still using my steam driven laptop

you're waiting to now no longer with out payin as well the easy incontrovertible truth that some business organization purposes gave you and XP license earlier to downgrade. And in case you purchase XP you'll probably now no longer locate each and each of the drivers in XP for Vista factors.

You could get hold of a copy of Ubuntu or similar off the net. Install that and get the Ubuntu setup to format your hard disk and remove all partitions. Then stick your XP disk in and do a fresh install of that.
It's a bit long winded but it should work. Good luck!

OZ was right, you need to get rid of any recovery partitions also, however what king of XP CD are you using? If you are using an OEM CD say from Compaq, Dell etc, it will not work. You either need a XP retail CD or non-branded OEM CD with a keycode. Check first that the vender of the new computer has drivers for XP also.

Did you delete the recovery partition too. Itll be a non-dos partition. If you can get the XP disk to do it get a windows 98 setup disk and use fdisk to delete it. Other than that im not sure what it might be.

It may be that your hardware is so new that XP doesn't have drivers for it. You can contact the manufacturer and see if they have a list of hardware, then you can try to find drivers for it online, but that may not work. You may be stuck with Vista.

Windows works pretty good going forward, going backward not so good. There is a process and it is a process. Google it.

This sounds so familiar. Vista was definitely not ready when it was released. Go to www.support/microsoft.com. Surely, they will help.
