If so, what type of gift would be appropriate?

Not necesary. A simple thank you is more appropriate. If you really feel the need to do more than that a nice card to say thank you is all that is needed.

NO you don't buy them a gift, although you can give them a Thank You card. They are getting paid at closing for their efforts on your behalf. Many, but not all realtors, give a housewarming gift, giftcard, or take their clients out to dinner. It's not mandatory. If you feel your realtor was exceptionally attentive to you and you wish to give them a gift, do so. Realtors are having rough time right now, so restaurant gift card is great thing to give them.

The gift you have already given is your business.

It's like going to the grocery story and buying groceries and then buying the checker a thank you gift for ringing you up. Not necessary.

They are happy to have you there because you are a customer, and they make money from you doing your business with them. THEY APPRECIATE YOU and NEED YOU.

When we have purchased homes we typically get a gift from the realtor after closing.

My friends who are now realtors always give their clients a gift and never expect a gift from their clients..

I agree that a thank you card is plenty. But they are just doing their job and they appreciate you.

Have a great day and enjoy your new home!!!

Nope. As a matter of fact, it should be the opposite. The realtor should send you a gift after closing. That's what my realtor did after the house is closed. Good luck ;)

Nothing against realtors but he/she is making plenty of money on your house. A gift is not necessary. As a matter of fact, many realtors send the buyer and the seller a gift.

If the realtor is representing both the buyer and the seller they make a killing on the commision.

A nice thank-you note should be more than enough. If you want to give your thank you note a more personal touch I would include a picture of your family taken in front of your new house.

Good luck!

It is customary that your realtor buys you a gift for your new house. Typically something for the house like a picture or garden statue or something custom. It's value should meet or exceed $100.00.

Well, you know that he or she will make quite a hefty sum from your closing. I do know people that have sent their realtor a small gift after he or she has sold their house for them.
