I am terrible with dates, so appreciate an occasional prompt. However in the case of my brother or mates, I do remember. I would not cringe, but say it was my birthday. If they can't at least remember the month the CRINGE ought to be on them anyway!!!!

Hey you gotta remember that people have tons of things on their mind. I always remember my friend's bday the day BEFORE, but then forget to congratulate them on the actual day. If you really want them to know, have someone remind them or invite them to eat at a restaurant and have the waiter's sing you a happy bday song and pretend like ur friend did it for u. I think that'd be a cool way. Just dont feel hurt by it. You never know, the reason they didnt remember might be cuz the have a surprise planned for u later. :) Anyway, Happy ( probably already belated) Birthday!

If it's someone close to you, then you must tell them so that they can hurriedly cover their tracks -- otherwise they're going to feel horrible about it when they realise that they forgot -- as they will, sooner or later. Just mention it in some subtle, oblique way and above all avoid having everybody break into a chorus of "Happy Birthday to you". That really is cringe making!

It depends who it is that forgot.
If it's your mother, father, sister, brother, husband/boyfriend, or MAYBE your best friend ever who you've exchanged presents with over many birthdays, then give them a reminder. If they forgot, so be it, but if you remind them they can do something belated.
If it's somebody other than that close relationship - get over it. You're a grown up right? After a while, we have to stop acting like we did when we were kids about our birthdays.

I forget my birthday every year. (I'm not making that up, every year other people have to remind me.) Anything I might have used to wanted to get as a present, now I just buy for me anyways, and I'm over 21 so I don't really have any birthday milestones worth looking forward to (well, maybe 65, but I'm not counting nearly that far ahead.)

Don't mention it to them
Forget their birthday the next time it comes around and if they say anything to you about it, just remind them that they forgot yours and you are simply returning the favour
No point in respecting someones feelings when they have shown a disregard for yours, family or not

It really sucks when people you are close to forgets your b-day but some people don't remember dates well -- but if its important to you that they acknowledge your b-day then jokingly ask where's the surprise party at or something like that -- and take it from there! If you could care less then oh well they'll say something when they remember or are told by someone else.

I never say anything if someone forgets my birthday, it only makes an awkward situation for both people involved.

ha! to avoid this whole situation with all my pals i start a countdown about a week before my b day and when i talk to them that week to make plans i remind them how many days left til my b day. if anyone forgets after that much warning i get a little grumpy with them.
i have all my friends b days written on the calendar and every year i re write it into the next year's calendar.
