I've been to the Yukon and apart from Whitehorse there is no other real urban centre. But the nature (Kluane National Park where Mt. Logan is located is in the area) and natural phenomena up there are enough to keep you interested...At midnight for example, I saw two rainbows in the sky as it had rained all day...and as Juan B. said daylight in the summer extends to about 4:00 am in the morning...I also camped and it was fine - for the most part, the temperature in summer is around 0 at night so make sure you have a well-insulated sleeping bag...in the day it's about 15-20. Also be careful of the roads...Because of the heavy snowfall...most of the roads are cracked and under construction (for repaving and such)...so expect delays if you are driving around..Anyway going up North is a true adventure...and Alaska's not far from there...definitely worth seeing as well. Enjoy!

The capital of the NWT is Yellowknife, which is a city of 20,000 people. Being that it is the capital, it will have all the necessities for the province. It will be completely self sufficient due to the fact that in the harsher weather you will not be able to travel easily between communities. The current temperature is -2 celsius. This temperature will rise slowly over the next few months.

I have been to Whitehorse, Yukon twice. Once in June and once in late September and it was starting to get cold. They have a long winter, but summers are great with long hours of daylight and lots of tourists. On the other trip during the summer, we drove up to Dawson City, a tourist town set up like a gold rush boom town. From there we drove to Inuvik, NWT. We camped in a tent on that trip. Couldn't sleep, it was too much sunlight. It was a beautiful trip, and lots of outdoor type exploring available.
