Ok, I have a good friend that is on his second tour in Iraq. The first time he was there- the war just started and he didn't mind being there because he wanted to make a career out of being in the service. Flashforward to 2006 and he was married and his first child was born in October. He got the news that he was going back over seas 3 days before Christmas. Oh and the real kicker was that his time was up in November and he had decided not to re-enlist. The government and the armed services thought otherwise and envoked their right to call any soldier to duty whether they are active or not.

Anywho, I keep in contact with my friend a fews times a week. He said morale is low because alot of the guys there think that 5 years in- there is really no point in being there. My friend said it best when he told me that "you can set up all the rules, and put all the right people in the right office chairs, but in the end, if they don't want to follow the guidelines you give them- there's nothing you can do. In the end, if they don't want what you give them- that's their choice". That put it all into perspective for me.

Personally, I thought the whole idea of the war was alright in the beginning. Something needed to be done and it was evident that Iraq was ready to go to war with us (they were heavily armed for no good reason). However, I saw a lovely video on MSNBC last night of Mr. Bush on Airforce 1 going on about how Texans dress (I guess he was on his way there or something??) and showed off his fancy boots and belt buckle and so on. Now, you have thousands of young men and women away from home fighting a war that, in my opinion, is now fruitless. How in the world does he sleep at night? He gets to go on all sorts of exotic locations and shake hands with president hopefuls. Come on! There are people dying for a war you started!

I admit, I grew up in a Republican family and with Republican views, but I cannot support Bush any longer. I thought he handled 9/11 well, but this war is just pointless.

We cannot help people that do not want our help. It is one giant turf war between Shiites and everyone else. There is nothing that we can do to make them get along. The world just doesn't work like that.

If anyone is interested in his war blog- search for Kamicowzi's War Blog & Grizzled Ancients- it's a forum for a group he's with. It's a look into the life of a soldier that one might not normally see. He started it before he left and he updates it every couple of days. They have "blackouts" which means no communication of any kind (phone or internet) when a soldier dies. He had a very gripping blog entry of the first one he witnessed since this stint over there began.

No, our brave troops must be out of Iraq. We gained the "the conflict" which has now became right into a police action. [feels like Vietnam]. even however we've the terrific protection stress interior the international, troops are for attack and beating our foes in boost; overwhelming the enemy - which they did! even however, suitable how, our protection stress is appearing police paintings. [The insurgents moved in after our attack - no longer formerly, which Bush/Cheney could like us to have confidence]. We did no longer prepare Iraqis [its been 5 years now] to accomplish the traditional responsibilities that our protection stress is appearing. [The cop on the line]. we ought to constantly have, because of the fact the beginning up, saved the individuals employed that run the railroads, means, water and so on; to maintain commonplace purposes working. even however, we fired all of them. for example, Gen. Patton knew after WWII that we had to maintain public centers, purposes and so on working. It labored and saved the peace. i'm no longer able to foresee a democracy as all of us know it, in Iraq or in any different case, interior the area interior the close to destiny.

It does pose the question of will Ira qever get on its feet?

However, lets look at our history, we still have troops in Germany, we still have troops in Korea, we still have troops in Bosnia, and Kosovo as well. When are we going to pull those guys out. As a military we dont just pull out of places, we tend to stay there. You cant just crumble a country and leave it. Just thik of as we just adopted a troubled teenager.

They never will stand on their feet. Us killing off a dictator(yes he was a madman, but against terrorists), and constantly killing off anyone we deem a terrorist which include innocent civilians(I've seen the videos) w/ depleted uranium ammo.

Point being, we were lied into this war, and the only way to stop the endless billions of dollars going towards it and having our troops dying endlessly is to get them out NOW! All I see is money and control of the middle east being the main reasons. Both prior reasons for the invasion have shown to be completely a HUGE BIG STINKING LIE!!! NO WMD'S, NO AL-QAEDA/HUSSEIN LINKS. WTF? Bring them home to their loving families before they come back in bags and boxes.

we should stay until a 3,000 year old feud between the shiites, sunnis, and kurds is finally ended. maybe we should stay another 3,000 years is that long enough? Thinking that you can end an ancient rivalry that stretches back thousands of years ago is arrogant and foolish!
