its not about how far, its about for how long - 4-6 times a week for 30-50min and combine it with light weight, high rep training.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

At least 3 days a week. If you're jogging for the first time, start out slow 1 1/2-2 miles and then slowly increase the distance. If you can work up to 5 miles a day eventually, you will definitely see results. It is good to exercise one day and rest the next......gives the muscles a chance to respond.

I run for 3 miles mon, wed and fri then I go for 6 miles on a Sunday (unless I've been for a drink!). I have every 3rd Sunday off. It is good to rest in-between days to get the full benefit. I started running 9 months ago and I am now toned and flat with definition on my stomach and my legs are also firm from following this routine ( I also have taken time out when on holiday and different occasions). You'll feel alot better and find that you have more energy. Good luck and keep at it!

It depends upon how much weight you'd like to lose and how often you plan on jogging. I'll tell you what worked for me and gave me very good results in a short amount of time. I am in the Army Reserves and when I went to my advanced training I weighed about 225lbs. My training was for about 13 weeks. I was on a diet where I ate a lot of low calorie foods. I often had chicken or fish. For my breakfast I always had a hard boiled egg, bran flakes, and yogurt. I'm not saying you need to put yourself on a diet exactly like that but you should be eating as healthy as you can while you are on an exercise program. You'll see better results sooner than if you don't eat healthy while doing that. Anyways while I was in training we ran every other day and in between we did things like push ups and sit ups to work out the rest of our bodies. You don't have to do push ups and sit ups like I did but it would be good to do something to work out the rest of your body. You don't need to run every day and it's also good to give the rest of your body a work out, too. When I would go running it was at a good slow pace to start and I'd run usually from 2 to 3 miles. Depending upon your current level of fittness you may want to a shorter distance to start and work up to 2 miles. When you do go jogging it's good to gradually increase you're pace and even the distance, but do it gradually and do over do it Start off doing what you know you can do with that and then go from there. If you aren't used to jogging you may not want to run very far at first at a very fast pace untill you find a distance and pace that is a good starting point for you. Oh and when I was in training I worked out every day except for Sunday. In the 13 weeks of training, when the end of it rolled around I found that I had lost about 55 pounds and on my run I was able to run 2 miles in 15 minutes. I certianly couldn't do that when I started the training. What I did gave me very positive results in 13 weeks. Just remember, start off by doing what you know you can do and go from there. I hope this help you.

depends on how much crap you eat other wise 2-3 miles a day and you'll see some toning more if you want to cook that off, remeber the key is to burn more calories than your taking in, that all that it comes down to when losing weight you can work out for 8 hrs a day but that doesnt mean anything if your eating loads of crap, so simply put to lose the butt you gotta cut the cals.

For everybody its different. Test your limits w/ speed and distance at first. Then you can start making it progressively longer as you keep doing it. If you maintain doing this steadily for a few months you will start to like working out.
I run on my treadmill 2 miles everyday. I run 5 mph a half mile than a walk at 3 mph for a quarter of a mile, and i do this repeatedly til i get too 2 miles.
