I have paid my whole way through college (about $30,000). I still owe about $3700. My Mom and step-dad (who do not talk and are not married anymore) split the money owed so I could graduate in June. I want to do something inexpensive for both of them (seperatly) as a way of saying thank you. I need an idea for my step-dad (whom I am not very close with anymore). He likes gunsmithing, animals, hunting etc. Any ideas?

Yea. I would Say you've, already thanked them....for now. Just keep doing what you're doing by making them proud, and when you become that big executive, then give them that BIG gift. I'm sure for now, they would settle for a "Thanks mom and dad, you're the greatest" as you hand them an invitation to your graduation. Keep up the good work! (I don't even know you and I'm proud).

I think a nice call and a follow up note to your step-father would be very nice. Your mom would probably just appreciate a heart-felt thank you. They don't really want or expect anything in return. They did this to help you and because they love you.

Buy a nice card and say thank you...They aren't expecting anything in return...I am sure. And seeing as how they gave you the money because you couldn't pay it...spending money on un-needed things would probably not look so great. Good luck!

Give them each a framed photo of you in your cap and gown. Write them both heartfelt letters about how much their help meant to you. Your graduation is their best gift.
