Do not wash asparagus before storing. Wash it just before using. To store, wrap in a paper towel and place in a plastic bag that is not airtight, or place upright in a jar or glass containing 1/2 inch of cold water.
No more than 3 to 5 days in the fridge.

If it is limp, it is still good to eat. Soak in very cold water. Then break off the ends.
Next time when you get asparagus, stand it up in cold water,if you don't use it right away.

If you hold on to either end of the stalk and bend it, it will break at the point where the top is fresh and the bottom is woody, ( old ). Cook the tops, discard the bottoms of the stalk.

It should still be firm. If it is limp, throw it out! Easy way to tell: hold the bunch by the cut end and shake it back and forth. If they move around like crazy they are probably bad.

a week is pushing it, if the tops are still firm, and the bottoms are too dried out it might be ok. Also, if you hold it straight out, it shuoldn't bend
