Because it is forced on women. What is particularly insulting, is that it is assumed that women are immoral. There is no basis for it in the Koran.

For the most part it's considered to be a control issue for women where they don't have the choice. In the United States it's been established that a person can dress as modestly or as revealing as she wants. In other countries it's not an option. The Hijab has come to represent female oppression even when the woman chooses to wear it herself. I have seen Muslim women who give it up for their own reasons. I have also seen women in the United States forced t wear it by their fathers (Mostly it seems that women who grow up as second generation Americans don't care for it in some cases).

Hijab is NOT just about the scarf. Its about the entire body dressed appropriatly, modestly and not everything hanging out like a piece of meat
Riegan you are wrong! Modesty is required for MEN also. Men are to dress modestly also. Most of the middle east dresses in Long sleeved white dishdasha, galabiya, etc. and the scarf on their heads. Why does a woman have to have everything hanging out like a piece of raw meat attracting dogs no less to be considered liberated?

Well because in the west women are free to walk around more or less naked as long as it is not offensive to anyone. But when somebody wears a hijab, in western eyes, it is like they are being pressured into it (even though they do so at their own will) and are cut off from modern day society because it is so common to see women who arn't so well covered up.

Many people in the west associate liberation of the person with liberation of the body. It shouldn't be like that but it is. I personally am not Muslim (I'm fundamental Baptist) but it is your choice to dress (or not dress, unfortunately) the way you want. I being fB am trying to be very modest. People should see my inside not my outside because you shouldn't judge a book by its cover nor a woman by her body.

I live in rural Texas, it gets pretty damn hot here. I am not about to even imagine having some sweaty, hot mess all around my face and neck when I'm outside working in the yard. No way. Just because my neighbor might see ny neck or my hair and get a woodie?
Ha ha!! Good for him, then. Sorry, I'll pass. I'll take a wide-brimmed sun-hat, a tank top, sunscreen and a pair of shorts. Let them sweat all they want to. I can care less. Truly. They look like a Martha Stewart collection of drapes on the runway.

because you force iton your women while your men walk around in shorts and muscle shirts. i think if you expect your women to dress that way, you should also force yourmen to do so.And what the hell is with the making little girls wear the hijab? Are they inciting muslim men into sexual frenzy , and isn't that the reason for the hijab and burkah in the first place, because muslim men can't control their sexual urges.?

Because people tend to judge the customs of other people by their own. Most people have not been around other cultures. They see everything from their own cultural perspective.
I have traveled quite a bit. I am interested in other cultures. I try to learn about them.

I think it has to do with the national laws of some countries requiring it.
Honestly, I think if a woman truly wants to cover up (to whatever degree) according to a faith she truly believes in - then good for her. I just get nervous about the idea of a government making it law.

When its 110 degrees out, and you see a family where the man is wearing shorts and sandals, the kids are wearing shorts and sandals, and the woman is wearing a head to toe black tent with black gloves and boots, what the hell are we supposed to think?
