Gestation is the period when the fetus (baby) develops in the mother's uterus. ... In dogs, gestation lasts 63 days from the time of ovulation. Because you might not know when ovulation occurred, you should expect puppies to be delivered anytime between 58 to 68 days from when the female was bred.(about 9 weeks)

Dogs are pregnant for 58-63 days. This can be give or take a few days. You should get the book "breeding dogs for dummies" it will help you care for the pups after they are born. It had been a great resource to me on many occassions. It is not just about breeding dogs but how to help with the pups and how to find the pups good loving homes and things of that nature. I foster animals for our local shelter and have had on occassion pregnant dogs. It is a wonderful and helpful book. You vet will also be a great resource to you and will be happy to help you answer any questions you may have. Good luck to you. Please be sure to get the mother and her pups prenatal care and to take her and the pups to the vet no later than 72 hours after birth.

A good rule of thumb is humans are pregnant for 9 months, dogs are pregnant for 9 weeks. I breed American Bulldogs so I have been there and done that.
