I completely support birth control for Christians and education for them too.

I thought that it was just Catholics that were banned from any 'mechanical' or 'chemical' birth control methods rather than christians at large but, that aside, this is just another outdated stance that is causing unchecked birth rates in poor countries and one cae that stands out is the Philippines, a country that is the only christian country in SE Asia, a country that has an enormous poverty burden but one where the dominant religion is Catholic, for which we can blame the Spanish occupiers about 450 years ago, who forced catholicism on the native population on an 'accept or die' basis, much as they did in South America.
Come on Mr Pope, wake up to reality!!! Allow birth-control, let priests marry, let women be priests ... This is 2007!!!

According to the church the only type of birth control should be abstinence. SO, their train of thought goes like this: If we say we are OK with birth control methods , we are saying that it is OK to have sex. Likewise, if you have had sex , you should not abort. What they don't realize is that times have changed and people have sex waaaayyyyy before marriage.
I don't know if you know this, but according to the church, married women should not use any type of contraceptives.
That is how people like my mom end up with 7 girls! :-) It doesn't mean that we have to do the same . I say.. keep on preaching , it doesn't mean that we'll be listening.

It is amazing that a religion that believes that their God created everything is against something that has been created (ie: condoms or birth control). If their God created everything, then he created condoms and birth control, and if they are against it then they must also be against him. However, if he did not create them, then he is not all powerful or creating. That is the problem with their religion, that they in fact can not be against anything that has been created (ever) since their God created everything. In addition, if their God is all knowing and all powerful and all good and God knew that this was going to happen and he thought that it was bad, then being all powerful he just could have snapped his fingers and never allowed them into existence. Oh, I forgot, these are all tests that God puts us through constantly, seems like we are a science experiment.

It all comes down to the connection between pleasure and sin. Pleasurable things are temptations that we should avoid -- temperance being a virtue and all. Sex feels good, so it must be sinful. The only acceptable reason for people to have sex according to many religions is for procreation. (Hence the classic "Hole-in-a-sheet" skit from Upright Citizens Brigade)
Besides, if we tell our children about sex...*gasp*...they might start having it! People need to wake up already.

Ok first of all, thats stupid to have schools ban this talking. Its important to have kids know about all these things. Its a normal part of life. So i agree with you. Why would you fight to ban education. You are entirely correct!

Well, they've discovered how well their "abstinence" teachings are working. They're not working AT ALL. They have had absolutely no effect at all in encouraging people to stop having sex. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
$176 MILLION of taxpayers money completely wasted by our Christianity-controlled government on this B/S.

And it's not a question of denying responsibility for our children. It's about educating our children about how to be responsible and protect themselves. Denying them information, and keeping them ignorant about how to protect themselves from STD's and pregnancy is not being very responsible as parents.

Maybe because promoting condoms and birth control simply says to the children in schools "Hey we as adults give in. We will not be firm and teach that sex before marriage is wrong in God's eyes. We are not worried if you get pregnant at age 15 or 16 and have to drop out of school and raise a child without a daddy. We are not worried that you may contract a sexually transmitted disease. We do not care about your purity. We as adults deny any responsiblity to our kids". This is what I think.

I agree. Just becaue Christians do not believe in premarital intercourse does not mean that everyone feels the same way! Abstinence is great, but it is not always practical. IF people are going to have sex, they should at least be educated about it.

I agree with your comments. Every birth control device available should be taught in school. Not only to protect against unwanted pregnancy but Children should have every protection available against venereal disease. It can be deadly. Kids are gonna do it. I don't care how often you say, "My kid is a good kid he/she wont do it." Dammit don't wait until your kid comes home pregnant it might not be simple as an abortion. Sometimes diseases spread by sex can kill.
