I believe charity of spirit is the most important quality one should strive to obtain. Such a benevolent goodwill enables a person to peacefully co-exist with everyone and make this imperfect world just a little bit more tolerable.
We all have our inherent biases and flaws, but there is no reason we cannot strive to be better, no matter what our personal circumstances may be.

I never knew love was a religious thing. I'm not religious and I show love with kind words and deeds. Giving small gifts because I think of a person when I see something. Telling them how much I care, especially when they need someone.
Love isn't limited to religious people. Love was around WAY before religion.

Don't make it anything to do with god.
Just tell them "I love you". Hug them. Be there when they need you. Do surprising and unexpected things to please them sometimes (Like tickets to a play you know they'd like and you don't, then GO with them without complaint).
People act like it takes so much work to be romantic and to show someone that you love them but its really a very small thing that makes you both feel good. So do it.
Leave them a note that says how you feel.
Make them their favorite dinner as a surprise.
Take them to their favorite restaurant unexpectedly.
Its really not that hard.

You just talk to them amicably. You know, a friendly Hello, an interest share talked about, etc.
You can also give them something that they might like, and go to the trouble of helping them with something that they are having a problem with.

There are many ways to display your affection for an individaul, and loving in the name of god doesnt have to be one of them.
In fact, accept other's beliefs to be their own. You dont need to approve, but being tolerant of one's character "defects" is definately a start

bringing them home flowers, sending them a love letter, giving them a hug and kiss, helping out around the house, going above and beyond to help someone you love.

Love have nothing do to with religion...
if fact:
"religion is Spiritual fraud"; "religion is the Worse invention of humanity" - Jesus Christ, Buddha and any one else with Spiritual intelligence.
Without God, there is No Love; Without religion, there are No Wars!
If you Love Yourself and what to Love other's, here's what you need to do:
Create a private, personal, direct, divine Relationship with Our Creator and save your Soul from religion.
Only with Our Creator's Love and Peace will we be Truly Free!
