For one thing, it turns out that there are way more church people than I thought there'd be.

And they think they're going to heaven, though there isn't any heaven; all this adds up to whole lot of people deluding themselves in this modern day and age...

It's amazing! No, amazing isn't the word; it's creepy.

Not at all what I expected.

Question: Can anyone put this all in perspective, in a hundred words or fewer; or shall I just ignore it?

You're right, Shemus W, nobody is going to heaven.
The Bible makes that clear.
Psalm 115:16 states what we have been given to live on.
Psalm 37:29 states where our future is.
The Apostle Peter said "I know that after my going away oppressive wolves will enter in among YOU and will not treat the flock with tenderness, and from among YOU yourselves men will rise and speak twisted things to draw away the disciples after themselves."
Acts 20:29,30.
Among those 'twisted things' is the idea we go to heaven.
God will not allow these teachers of falseness to go on forever.
In Revelation, these religious liars are referred to as Babylon the Great and she is doomed.
