They're totally independent of each other. If you efiled, the fed deposit should take about 2 weeks if you asked for direct deposit. If you mailed your return, more like 6 weeks. If you didn't ask for it to be deposited, and are getting a check, will take about an additional week.

Go to irs.gov and go to "where's my refund" - you might be able to get more info there on your check. You'll have to enter your social security number, your filing status, and the amount of your refund as shown on your tax return.

A number of the state refunds are taking a very long time this year considering many states just do not need the cash. I e-filed with direct deposit on Feb 8th and obtained my federal refund in about 9 days. I am still ready for the state (the big apple). I believe they are ready for quarterly income tax sales to coming in (which used to be due March twentieth) earlier than they sending out refund assessments.

many of the state refunds are taking an prolonged time this twelve months because of the fact many states basically don't have the money. I e-filed with direct deposit on Feb 8th and have been given my federal refund in approximately 9 days. i'm nevertheless waiting for the state (massive apple). i think they are waiting for quarterly revenues tax revenues to start coming in (which became into due March twentieth) in the past they start sending out refund tests.

They come when they come.

The general guidance from the IRS is that it you e-file and opt for Direct Deposit of your refund you should see it in 10 - 14 days. If you mail a paper return and/or want a check in the mail the interval increases to 4 - 8 weeks. However there are many things that can lead to delays such as questions on your return, additional review by the IRS or just backlogs of filed returns waiting to be processed. The later in the season that you file, the more likely there will be delays.

You are lucky to live in a state that gets your refund check back to you quickly. Most states send their checks out about a week after the federal. If you filed your return electronically, you will receive your federal refund check in about 4-6 weeks from the date that you filed. Hope this helps! :)
