...when ordinary Americans do not have that right?

Put religion aside for a moment. I know doctors have to make split second "life and death" decisions all the time, but they are always to make the decision in an attempt to preserve life, isn't that right?

Ok, so if a healthy woman is carrying a healthy baby (fetus, if you prefer), why are they able to murder it at the woman's request and have no legal consequence?

It is human and it is alive.

Edit: I didn't post this to start a fire. I thought of it because of another question someone asked. There's no emotion behind the question.

I'm reading many inaccuracies in the answers to your questions. The human fetus is not "a part of the mother", and removing a fetus is not like "cutting off a finger". Human fetuses often have different blood types than the mother, and they have a unique chromosomal make-up, unlike that of the mother's. They are unique individuals. The human fetus is not "just a bundle of cells" or a "tumor" with cells multiplying willy-nilly. The human fetus is an intricate, living organism. I suggest that the people writing these inaccuracies take a basic embryology course.

It is true that the human fetus is totally dependent on the mother for sustenance. All living people are totally dependent on God for our sustenance also. If God weren't continuously giving us life, we would all die in a split second. The mothers should be as generous to their fetuses as God is to all of us.

Human law and God's law are two different things. People can "legally" get and give abortions, but that doesn't mean these people won't have to face the consequences of their actions later on. Imagine having to face the person you aborted and explain to them why you, their own mother, denied them life. The people who murder abortionists will also have to face the consequences of their actions.

I, personally, do not give abortions. I don't believe in it. Also, I took the Hipporcatic Oath when I received my M.D. degree. "First do no harm" is part of the oath. The oath also specifically tells doctors not to give abortions. Many of my classmates told me that they were going to take the oath, knowing full well they were later going to give abortions. Why take the oath at all?

There are too many people on this planet, but that doesn't make abortion right. Anybody heard of birth control, SELF control or abstinance?

First off, abortion is at it's core immoral and wrong (as are many last resorts)
BUT, it is not murder. It is not murder. According to the law, murder is one thing, abortion another.
And so nothing gives the doctor any right to murder, only a right to abort.
So why does it happen?
Here's a few reasons,
1.) 14 year old girls don't have the skills required to raise a kid
2.) Raped women don't need to give birth to a child born from truly ugly sin.
3.) Rich people hate the idea of another welfare mouth to feed
4.) The doctors can make a profit (I'm not defending, just telling you what you want to hear, which is the why - correct?)
5.) Abortion has been around for a long long time, just like murder.
6.) And the main reason is that there are many many many people in this country who don't see eye to eye, making laws against anything hard to pass. Also, people can gain political office by telling us that they are against abortion (even though they'll never ever do anything about it)
Money Money Money Money Money.
This is America, not Israel. It is not God's USA, it's the dollar's. sad but true. but it explains alot!

I too am against abortion. However it is the law that gives the doctors this right. Many doctors will not and do not perform abortions for personal reasons. They are permitted to deny that service completely if they are against it. The only thing they are not permitted to do is pick and choose. They cannot deny a woman who has the means to take care of a baby an abortion and then do an abortion on a "poor" woman. They are laws that keep them from withholding the service on their personal opinions whether the woman deserves an abortion or not.

The only thing that us "regular" people can do is to lobby our lawmakers if we want to change the law. We can also help with services that give woman other options such as proper birth control and adoption services.

The abortion INDUSTRY? That's just sick, Desperado. Tell me there's more money to be had in aborting pregnancies than carrying them to term. Just try it.
What gives doctors the right to carry out a medical procedure known as abortion is that the Supreme Court has upheld a woman's right to choose what happens to her body. Just like the average American doesn't want the government poking their heads into our bedrooms, we also don't want their heads in the uterus of every women in the U.S. Am I right?
FYI, everyone, even if Roe v. Wade were overturned, that would leave the matter up to individual states. It wouldn't outlaw abortion.
And yes, I too think that abortion is a pretty horrible idea. Nobody enjoys the thought of it. It would be a wonderful thing if every woman who became pregnant was emotionally, socially, and financially capable of raising a healthy, happy child. But that's not the case. And the solution to that is EDUCATION (not of the abstinence-only variety), not removing an option of which we don't necessarily approve.

Putting religion aside, they have choice just like the rest of us. They might not face legal consequences, but it is they that have to go home at night and think about what it is they do for a living. It may be the woman's choice to have the abortion in the first place, but it is the doctor that has a choice to make as well. There are plenty of doctors that don't give abortions, and their reason is the same - choice.

Great question- abortion is the only legal murder in America. For the person who said the dr has a right to remove a cancer in a person's body- what does that have to do with a living child? A cancerous tissue does not have a beating heart. The excuses people use never ceases to amaze me. If a woman went to a dr, with a possible miscarriage, would the dr allow the baby to die, if there was any chance of survival, of course not- For those who think that abortion is done only for the health of mom, they are very wrong- that is one of the lowest percentages of reasons for abortions- the biggest percentage?_ "I cannot raise a child now". Babies are gifts, not choices.

there's a double time-honored. If somebody hurts a pregnant lady, and the fetus dies interior her, the criminal would nicely be charged with the homicide of that unborn toddler. yet while the mum comes to a decision she would not want the toddler, she will visit an abortionist and kill her unborn toddler, without costs being made against her or the scientific group that performs the technique. you surely need to acquire a video clip documenting a late-term abortion. then you definately can decide for your self.

MAN- the SC decide it for America in Roe V Wade. In other countries who knows.
Anyway what gives pro-lifers the right to kill abortion Dr. ?
I am pro-life but I think taking one life for another is insane.

God didn't give the right Man did.

The responses you are getting would be great for a discussion board. We could really get into this one. I totally disagree with a lot of pro-abortion people's arguments on here. BTW- I had an abortion at 18. Got raped at 24 and kept the baby- the abortion was such a horrifying experience for me- killing my child was way worse- WAY WORSE than the rape. If it is living and growing- to me it is alive. That's murder in my opinion. For me- I still cry over that abortion. The rape was 9 year ago. I am a survivor not a victim. My daughter reminds me everyday of how strong I am.

The law interprets what a human being is differently than you do. We can't expect the law to be made to comply with the individual definition of each item.
Dumping a pick-up load of garbage is littering. How about shaking the ashes off a cigar ? Some will say that's littering too, others would laugh at the idea.
Some say that life begins when sperm touches the ova. The ova and sperm are both live cells. Is wasting either murder ?

Judicial Activism and a cowardly Congress.

Roe V Wade is NOT how American Law is supposed to be written. Then they add to the confusion by claiming that killing a pregnant woman is a double homicide.

HUH??? Is it a person, or isn't it???

Did you know that astronauts are not viable in space without a life support system? Guess that means they aren't human either.
