Not all persons (believers and non-believers) posting in this Forum are intolerant or hate-mongers. Any reasonable non-believer would be embarrassed by some of the content by like-minded persons. And judging by some of the believer’s written words, some self-professed Christians seem to have wandered away from the “love thy neighbor” reservation. For these self-professed Christians only, I recommend a refresher on the following two verses:
Php 3:18 For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ.
Php 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.
Please don’t make the mistake of extrapolating the behaviors in this Forum by some persons as representative of the populations of believers or non-believers. What you observe herein is a social aberration of the real populations of these groups. It is both interesting yet sad to see how some will behave when hiding behind the anonymity of the computer.
Why persons think that the anonymity of this Forum grants them a license to ignore common social graces bewilders me. I suspect that these persons would be truly ashamed if their parents, husband, wife, children, etc., learned of some of the things they write herein. Clearly they do their loved ones a disservice and dishonor them with such behavior.
A simple test everyone should use before posting to R&S:
Read your question or response to your Mother. If she remains proud of the person she gave birth to, loved, and raised, then by all means post whatever you have written.

So, going along with what you're saying........ those who come to Y!A R&S and who's only purpose is to write questions trying to preach their religion to everyone & get people to see their way........ That's really their way of countering because these religious boards are "starting to really make them wonder about their own beliefs" as you so succinctly put it?!
Did it ever occur to you that maybe the "silly remarks" are made about religion because there have been MANY offensive remarks made towards those who do not follow religion?
Let's just say that the "silly remarks" are not set at naught. They come from religious types such as yourself pushing their beliefs on everyone else because they feel that their fictional book is better than everyone else's fictional book.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, if you don't like people challenging your religious beliefs & making YOU wonder about your own beliefs...... Why don't you just go to a religion board where everyone thinks the same things you think...... so that way you needn't concern yourself with the intellectual challenges of having an open discussion with a person about their religion.... all you have to worry about is planning your next church function with your new group of christian friends.

I can only assume that you are referring to atheists, and if this is the case, you have erred significantly. According to Merriam-Webster's online dictionary, one definition for religion is "a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith". Since atheists believe ardently and with faith ("something that is believed especially with strong conviction"), atheism is a religion. I should know, since I'm an atheist. The only only people who don't have a religion are the weak atheists, who do not deny the existence of a god but rather simply don't believe in one(an educated person can distinguish the difference), and agnostics. I've never heard a true agnostic bash anyone's religion, so maybe it's time you moved on, to an open dictionary.

My take?
Some come in out of a real curiosity to understand the otherside, regardless of whether they change their mind or not. I applaud those.
Others come on to see if they can make the other side see things their way. That's ok too.
Some, as you pointed out, come on merely to be insulting and disrespectful... those? Not so ok!! I would respectfully caution you against generalizing. Not all non-believers act like total idiots. Most are respectful and ask intelligent, thought provoking questions.

The board is about religion and spirituality. Spirituality isn't necessarily religion. Maybe they are there for that? I'm not sure. I'm not particularly religious, but I will answer any question that appears on the new question list.

Religions are in basic terms guy's attempt to narrate to, and communicate with, and comprehend God. Religions aren't from now on created by technique of God, yet by technique of guy. guy is a finite and in fact mistaken creature, initially created by technique of God to be suitable, residing in suitable cohesion with the global round him. Mankind mucked that up by technique of desirous to be God-like with the awareness of sturdy & evil. And so the following we are on the instantaneous. even notwithstanding i'm a general church attendee, and a professing Christian, i'm no longer a lot a believer in faith as i'm a believer in God. definite, there's a distinction. lots of those who're indexed as Christians are what you ought to call "nominal" Christians. that's why the info you cite (won't be able to say how precise they truly are) are the way they're. certainly in a us of a the position maximum everybody is not any less than baptised and given a Christian call like "John" or "Mary" etc inspite of in the adventure that they in no way do a Christian project of their life they're nevertheless indexed as "Christian". In Yemen, the overall public of the reformatory inhabitants is in all likelihood Muslim, in Burma the overall public of them are in all likelihood Buddhists, etc. that's all which ability. The Bible in basic terms information the way human beings lived decrease back then - it really is common to sit decrease back and look with hindsight in the course of the centuries from our enlightened twenty first century American vantage factor and say "gosh those human beings were actual negative" yet who's to assert you in my opinion does no longer have had an identical frame of mind in case you were residing decrease back then in that problem. you're brilliant about one project - out of each of the thousands of religions, no they couldn't all be brilliant. i'm no longer a believer contained in the now person-pleasant "New Age" concept that each and each body religions factor to an identical truth. they don't....... Sorry if that offends all of us, yet that's what i trust John 14:6 "Jesus spoke back, "i'm the way and the truth and the life. no individual includes the daddy except by ability of me."

If the religious weren't trying to affect the lives (by attempting to influence national, state, and local laws) of the non-believers, I'd back off.

Ok, it's just that as a mature, civilised person who has been brought up to care about others, i sort of see it as my duty to point out the countless error's displayed in religion with the slight hope that maybe you people will also outgrow the belief of religion.
... just as YOU are trying to help ME discover God... I am trying to help YOU realise how foolish your beliefs are.
Other than that, it's just kinda fun stirring you guys up... especially when we manage to come up with ever so much evidence whilst your left with merely a fictitious piece of writing known as le Bible

We come here to keep our eye out on those who would try to impose their rules on others who don't believe as you do. It's one thing to require certain behaviors of your church or other organization. It's something else entirely when you require the rest of the world to live as you dictate, even when we consider your deity imaginary.

I am not sure, but I agree with you. This is very offending to see comments about religion so negative. I just seen some answers after I answered one and I could'nt believe it. It's like they were answering it like that to purposely offend us.
