Do you have community centers that are close to you (schools, libraries, etc)? Can you walk or take the bus to these?

I would try to find out about activities in your area/community. Sometimes there are free classes at the library, or local schools.

If you enjoy reading, I strongly suggest becoming a 'regular' at your community library. If you can, walk there if possible, and you can get some good reading done with some physical activity also.

How about going to your community pool if there is one? Unfortunately you usually have to pay to get in, but it's an idea.

Any activities at the YMCA, either to explore/enhance your current athletic abilities or to learn new ones?

Your local library should have pamphlets about community activities also. You never know what you might find.

*EDIT*

You mentioned you're confined to your house. Did you ever consider yoga? If you take pride in your athleticism, this will add a new dimension to it - flexibility, *strength*, focus, etc. Rent/buy/borrow some beginner's yoga dvds and give it a try!

And what about learning a new language? There are various tools out there to delve into another language - the Rosetta Stone cd-roms or other software, language how-to dvds, etc. If I had free time this is definitely something that would be on my list.

You ask a good question. When my sons were your age they are now in their 30's the most fulfilling summer vacations were spent in the service of others. They went to Mexico with their youth groups to build houses for the poor. The were camp counselors for underprivileged children and spent time working with special Olympics children. Do reading hour at the library........their are oodles of thing to do. Put on a straw hat grab some friends an pick up litter on the highway! You go girl!

When I was 10 years old I started volunteering at a VA Hospital. I spent 5 summers doing this. I learned how to deal with adults and it has really helped me today.

So I would recommend that you find someplace where you can volunteer. I think you are old enough to volunteer at a library or nursing home. You wont regret it!

Good Luck.

Find a job you like and ask to shadow someone who does that.

Volunteer to help build a house, feed the hungry, teach younger kids sports, or work at an animal shelter.

Get some books on your local environment and go outside and learn all the names of the trees, insects, birds, reptiles, etc, that live around you.

Have you thought of donating some time to help others? See if your local hospitals or nursing homes have any volunteer positions you could fill.
Volunteering also looks good on a college application.
It is also emotionally rewarding and a good character builder.

how about a sport camp or volunteer to be a camp counselor. i bet they are always looking for kids your age to help out. go to your local park district to find out.
find out from your school to see if you can tutor kids in the summer or go to the local library and see if you can volunteer to do some story time
have you thought about maybe looking online to find different websites that accept stories and articles written by teens

see if there is a day camp near you. our parks and recreation department has camp for all ages. they might even be able to teach you tennis or another hobby. lots of kids around here go to that and to every Bible summer program in town.
