As for the style Shorin Ryu that sort of thing. Shorin means Young Pine Tree, or Pine Forest.

"Shorin" is a region of Okinawa. Hence, "Shorin-Ryu." I think the region is either Shorin or Shoroku, but that because Shorin-Ryu is called such because it was formed from that region.

Shorin-ji is a name of temple in China in which "ji" means the word "temple." Shorin-ji-kenpo is the name of martial arts monks in that temple practiced.
