OK, now for an accurate answer....
Negative items stay on your credit report for 7 years, beginning from the date of the first delinquency. NOT the date they were closed.....Spiff, I sure wish you would verify your answers.
Once on your report, there are only two ways you can get them removed before this time period runs out...
1) The creditor must delete it
2) The creditor fails to respond to a dispute investigation, and fails to validate the debt.
It's not likely the creditor is going to remove this unless you pay the debt, and even then they don't HAVE to delete it.
So your other option is disputing it. Read the Fair Credit Reporting Act, as it details exactly what you must do to get these items removed through the dispute process.

This is unfortunately how it is suppose to be reported. It shows that it is a charged off account with zero owed on it. As you have found out paying off old charge offs and or collection accounts will not help your credit. You will have to wait for the seven years for it to fall off your report. You can try to dispute the item online with all three bureaus, however despite what people may tell you removing items that are truly yours from your credit report is anywhere from hard to impossible. Especially if you dispute them online, the verification process for online disputes is lackluster at best. It sometimes is no more than verifying your name is in someones data base via voice recording. The answer with wells fargo is both. They could see it on report certainly, however they may also save this information with them and see it for many years to come.

Nothing but time can remove things from your credit report that are true.
Credit card accounts will continue to show for 7-years from the closed date.

You cannot remove those - sorry! They will remain on your credit report 7 years from the date of last activity. So 7 years after you closed the cards, they will disappear.

I had the same thing on my report. What worked for me was contacting the credit card company directly, they may or may not require some information you no longer have access too. chances are you may no longer have the cards and therefor do not know the 3 digit or 4 digit number on the back, which they use to verify you and sometimes to cancel a card depending on the company. This slows things down but not impossible, you report the card lost and request a duplicate then cancel the newly issued one.

There are only two things that will get those items removed from your report: time and incorrect information. If the item has erroniously been placed on your report (i.e. someone who has the same name as you), you can dispute the information and have it removed. From your description, the items are/were yours, so you will have to wait 7 years from date of close for the items to drop off your report.
