My hard drive was fried and I bought a new one, but then I soon realized I don't have my OS disk that came with the computer. Is there anything I can do short of buying a new OS?

Most likely the easiest, hassle free thing to do is to simply purchase a new copy of your OS. I assume you mean Windows XP.

Try going on to http://www.pricewatch.com and do a search on Windows XP. You should be able to find an OEM copy for about $75 bucks or so.

Good luck.

If you still have a license for the OS you may be able to get someone (even a small computer shop) to get you a copy of the disk. Microsoft can possibly also mail you a replacement for a small fee, but I don't guarantee this. If you don't have the license, then you would need to get a new one, or contact the company you got the computer from and see what they can do.

I think you can't do anything else except buying the new OS disc...

You could download a corporate version off the internet using bit torrent, many sites have them, it is technically illegal but if you have the sticker on your PC that has your license code on it then i guess you technically are legal.

Its all very complicated.
