Fundamentalism is a movement growing out of the controversy with religious liberalism as the beginning of this century, when godly Christian leaders insisted that certain truths were fundamental to Christianity and could not be compromised. These included
1. Divine creation
2. Verbal inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture
3. Virgin birth of Christ
4. Christ's deity
5. Substitutionary atonement
6. Bodily resurrection
7. Physical return
8. Existence of literal heaven and hell
Though good Christians might disagree in other areas, to deny these essentials is to abandon the Christian faith.

Amazing to see that the media stereotypes are so effective....

A fundamentalist is belief in the basics...of the bible...it most certainly is not intellectual dishonesty or waving something you don't read....and it also is not turning your back on science or other intellectual endeavors...
