Because they are trying to live the American dream. Most people born here feel the country owes them something. They refuse to work hard, they demand big money, big benefits but do not want to work hard. In order to understand the american dream you have to come from another country.

For one, before America forced Mexico to sell their land as a condition of peace ( for $15 million), they controlled Nevada, Utah, Arizona ( some) New Mexico, and Colorado. I think they deserve the opportunity to work in the United States. Once again I cannot stress enough the fact that America was built by immigrants. All were not here legally either. Mexicans contribute millions of dollars to the US economy each year and most of the jobs they fill are in the service sector. Jobs most Americans feel they are too good to do. what's wrong with people coming here to feed their families or looking for a better life. No one complains when 300 Cubans enter the US by boat and "we" allow them to stay. I have no beef with any "group" of people, I just believe in being fair across the board. We need a more diverse nation. Plus, by 2050 Hispanics will make up 25-26% of the population. so get used to it. Maybe if "we" spent more time finding solutions to problems faced by poorer nations, and less on blaming them for our problems they could help themselves. But then again, cheap labor and profit always outweighs the well being of those being exploited.

That is such an ignorant question. You say they work for almost nothing and then you call it DECENT work. They are not working to put Americans out of work, unlike some Americans they are not lazy and are willing to do anything to provide for their family. They are doing work that Americans dont really want to do in the first place. You cant just look at it from your perspective you have to look at it from Mexicans perspectives too. If you were in a country where you had to work almost to death for like 1 dollar and hour and you had the chance to make 5 in an hour what would you do? When it comes to the necesities in life like food water and shelter putting someone else out of work is the last thing on your mind.

Why do Mexicans work for almost nothing to put Americans out of decent work?
American labor laws. If you underpay and mistreat an American, he can take legal action against you. Illegals are afraid to take such grievances to the law, since they fear deportation or other real or immagined penalties.
Another factor is that the US$s an illegal earns here have much greater purchasing power in Mexico than the do here, so if he can send any portion of his pay back to his family, they get a greater benefit from it than they would from him working there. Such remitances are the second-largest segment of the Mexican economy, after oil income.

Are you pissed off because you didn't get a job at the Home Depot or what?
The loudest in the illegal immigration debate have hitched their wagons to the idea that these illegals are stealing jobs from hard-working Americans. What job, exactly, does someone who speaks very little English steal? They work in the hourly jobs that pay less than $10 an hour. I don't think they stole Tom Tancredo's job.
But let's talk about who is stealing jobs from America. It's all the corporations who have shipped off their skilled-labor jobs to China and India, employing them for much cheaper AND not paying US taxes. But you don't hear people complaining about the job loss there, do you? You hear (supposedly) well-educated people complain that some illegal is stealing a job making fries at McDonald's or cleaning toilets down at the Motel 8.
Yes, something needs to change in regards to the US' policy on immigration -- but let's talk about the things that really matter and not how you were turned down to work at Home Depot.

Yes ALL employers of illegal aliens need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They need to send a clear message that if you hire illegal aliens you will go to prison. But if I lived in Mexico and I was poor ,of course Id want to be in the USA. But I would be grateful for the job and the money. I wouldn't try to destroy the very nation that was helping me feed my family. I wouldn't disrespect its people or its flag.
I know its difficult to live in a nation like Mexico where if you are born poor, and are honest then you will always be poor. But why not adapt to this country, try to learn English, and thus get better paying jobs. Do not bite the hand that feeds you. respect this nation and see the good in its people and do your best to become legal.
And contrary to what my good friend Siervocal says we will not see the prices of produce become outlandish . They will settle down to only a few penny's more after a jump in price because of the illegal not working.Don't buy into the hype that some pro supporters embrace. Americans make the economy run,not illegal aliens.
Americans have and still are doing backbreaking hard work. Not every one works in an office.
This nation was founded on hard work and Americans have NEVER shied away from it.

Mexicans dont work for almost nothing. Illegal Immigrants do. The employers enable them and the decent jobs dont accept illegal immigrants. But, if you need a scapegoat -> corporate america.
Nobody will take you seriously if you use the term "democrap". Not even a stranger on yahoo answers.

Do YOU happen to know many Americans in cities that really want to be day labor on a construction site? Maybe wash dishes in a restaurant? I dont. Stop spouting ridiculous crap about decent work. Its not decent work. No demand equals no supply. Simple as that. They do the jobs we dont want to do. Do you know how expensive it would be for us to live here if all of our employees were well paid and insured? You dont know what you are wishing for. Its an evil necessity.

It's the republicans who want cheap labor and the dems that want free votes
SURENO: We (meaning the legal citizens of this country) builded this county from scratch and shed our blood, sweat and tears to make this country what it is today. Maybe if others (illegals) did the same in your country of origin we wouldn't be having this discussion. Stay home protest and may even put your life on the line instead of belly-aching about lazy Americans while the whole time using our resources (schools, hospital, other services). And please do not bring up how we stole this land from the natives, at least we are not cowards and cry babies

If it bothers you then don't hire them yourself, plain and simple. They aren't hurting anyone, so all you racist republican's can just mind your own business.
Haha I don't see how they are putting "Americans" out of work, since I don't see any "Americans" lined up outside the Home Depo.

Because the contractors hire them.
Sector and Industry Totals: Bush raised more from the Finance, Insurance & Real Estate sector than from any other. The top contributors to Bush included individuals classifying themselves as retired, followed by lawyers and law firms, the real estate industry and the securities and investment industry – the same top four as in 2000.
The republicans are in charge in the red states, places where this is a concern. The govt gets a LOT of campaign contributions from real estate companies. In return, they dont make laws or huge fines, and the real estate companies continue to get cheap labor abnd make huge profits!. Look it up its public record.
Sorry to burst your bubble hun.
