that may be one of the most ridiculous things that I've ever heard. the caloric intake decides if a person gets fat or not. some may have to decrease the amount of calories that they intake when they no longer exercise but it is not an automatic response from the metabolism to do so

No. Once you stop working out, and you keep eating the same calories you will gain weight. If you adjust the calories that you are consuming to match your current calorie burn, then you will maintain your weight. It is all about calories in and calories out.
