NYC is quite big compared to other cities in the United States. NYC is made up of 5 boroughs, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan. Manhattan is the main part of the city where all of the theater district is along with a lot of the popular stores. I use to live in the city and moved to the country and miss it everyday. Once a city girl always a city girl. If you ever get the time and opportunity to travel, I recommend that you do go and experience it just once.

New york city contains 5 boroughs; Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island.

Manhattan is the cultural center if NYC and is the place where many tourists center their visit. The other boroughs have many places to see and historical landmarks to visit, but generally are not on the 'To Do List' of tourists.

In all the boroughs there is about 8.5 million people.

If you are visiting NYC you may wish to visit other boroughs for special events or historical context.

Staten Island - If the Bronx Bombers (NY Yankees) are out of town, check out the Class A Staten Island Yankees (beautiful view of lower Manhattan from St George) or drive down to Conference House, where the American Revolution was plotted in secret.

Brooklyn - Go to the Siren Festival (second week in July) in Coney Island. The beach, music all day, and the boardwalk. Later have dinner at Gargiulos.

Queens/Nassau - Hey in June there is the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park. Just grab a LIRR train at Penn station. Enjoy baseball? Catch a NY Met game - a NY Subway ride away from 42 nd street.

I know I missed a lot of stuff .... but the list could go on forever...

I don't know where in America you are from so making a comparison is difficult. Manhattan is the heart of NYC. Manhattan has main subarea like upper east-side, upper west-side, midtown and then there is the lower portion. Chesela, greenwich village, soho, tribeca and the financial district. Each area has it own sorta culture and hot spots. It is a large city but transportation is quick via usage of the subway. The subway system is very easy to navigate for newcomers. There is great nightlife in the city, basically whatever you want you can get at anytime. Look at http://newyork.citysearch.com/?brand=sidewalk

I am not too familiar with Brooklyn but it is similar to the other surrounding boroughs such as the Bronx and Queens. I believe that coney island is in brooklyn which is the only attraction and distinct I can remember. All have above ground trains that are above the popular streets which may seem strange to visitors. It makes the streets appear more crowded and loud.

Long island is basically residential type areas. You need your own transportation to get around. Hightlights are the weekend getaway spots for summer vacations...Fire Island, Hamptons, etc.

New Jersey you need your own transportation and there are many industrial areas in NJ. Also has weekend getaway spots.

Hope this helps I would do some searchs on the web.

There are five burroughs of New York City: Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, Queens, and Brooklyn. When people talk about NYC, they are usually talking about Manhattan. I live in Brooklyn, and it takes me about 10 minutes on the subway to get into the city, but of course you could live farther out. Brooklyn is pretty big. Manhattan is relatively small. I'm talking about area, not population though. I like living in Brooklyn because it's nice to get out away from all the crowds in Manhattan.

Hope you don't plan to bomb it.

NYC has five boroughs. Manhattan is an island between the Hudson and East Rivers. It is the heart of the city and is where most of the imfamous NYC things are (WTC, Empire State Building, Central Park, SOHO, etc.). Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island are the other four boroughs.

Buffalo is in upstate New York. New Jersey is a state and is across the river from NYC.

Its slightly confusing on the beginning up, extra interior the city than getting from the airport to situations sq., yet undemanding as quickly as you capture on. in case you have an iPhone, there's a loose subway map this isn't any doubt certainly the best device ever. as quickly as I first moved to the city, i substitute right into a sprint puzzled via the subway - yet being waiting to look on the map on my telephone each and every time i necessary substitute into an remarkable help. It additionally prevents you from having to stare on the maps interior the station, and relatively scream, "I dont understand what Im doing!!" additionally, if $40 5 isnt too plenty for you, i might propose taking a cab from the airport. Its a flat cost, and it will save you soooo plenty time. in case you're taking commute/subway to the inn, it will be over an hour. So i assume its as much as you what you're keen to pay- $40 5 for no confusion & a speedy holiday....or much less funds, confusion, cramped subway & an hour-long experience.
