You don't have to see a therapist only when your mentally ill.
A Therapist is a good sounding board & they see things that a person can't see about themselves. It's very difficult to see oneself objectively & this is what a therapist can help you do. You don't have to share that your seeing a therapist, it is strictly confidential. The therapist is there to help you & you can talk about anything that is bothering you.

I do not think there is anything wrong with seeing a therapists . I have seen some, and they have truly helped me in times when other couldn't.
And do not listen to those who think you are "crazy". Some people need to find someone to instill trust in, and talked to when others can not listen. This does not mean you are crazy, it means you are brave enough to get help, which is one of the hardest steps for a lot of people.
And if people continue to say you are crazy, just ignore it. It sounds like such a hard thing to do to ignore words, but when you do, people will give up. I know how it is, I know people were saying it was about me and my parents and drugs and what not. You just let them think what they want, only your opinion matters.
Best of luck to you. (:

Stop worrying about what the world thinks about therapist and the need for therapy. You aren't crazy just because you are seeing one.
My son goes to one and he is 13. He is depressed and has been having some trouble since he was 6. He has ADD and is highly intellegent (his IQ is 145 at 7 years old) He has learned alot of coping skills and has also learned to talk about his feelings and it helps him realize to trust others, if he tells them what is going on with him. He has also learned from the therapy, what to do with all his energy. He is a great artist and uses that to as a tool to help him. He isn't crazy. He just needs some direction and help. He is a great kid!

Seeing a therapist can be a very good experience if you are having some issues you need help resolving. The therapist is there to help teach us to deal with daily life situations that we maybe can't cope with. It does not mean that those who see a therapist are crazy.. it just means that they need some help... and if you think about it, don't we all need a little help now and again??

Hi cookie,

you don't have to be crazy to see a therapist at all..no matter what age you are. You are completely right, they are just someone to talk to. I don't think there is anything wrong with kids having someone they can trust that can help them with any emotional difficulties or things they don't feel able to talk to with parents, relatives or friends. It's a place were you can be and not feel judged but understood...and everyone needs that.. abit of care and understanding goes a loooong way. I see a counsellor (same thing) and I admit i have a few issues, but all we do is talk, they don't brainwash you and it's nice to have someone who doesn't take sides or cricise you for what you say or think about things.

Don't worry about those who say silly things, such as your crazy. They are wrong and they just don't understand.. that is their problem hunni, not yours. Good luck with your therapist..it's always a little awkward at first, as you would expect but don't worry after a while it will just feel nice to have someone to talk to who will listen and be there to support you!

Best of luck
x

Thinking someone is crazy for seeing a therapist is very old thinking. If you're troubled about something go see one to iron out your thoughts in a private setting. Assuming to know all the answers is crazy.

I know an 9 year old who sees a therapist because his parents are total morons, dysfunctional and are screwing up not only their lives but his, too.
I wish the parents would see a therapist, too but they don't think they need to. That's crazy.

As a parent, our son and daughter have both seen a therapist. Both kids dealt with bullies in middle school, mom and dad did the talking to the school, but the counselor gave them tools to deal (or learn to ignore the bullies.)

Therapists are generally better than Doctors in my opinion because they are paid to listen to you and trained to see you as a human being... Doctors are paid and trained to treat you as a walking ball of symptoms,

( A body... with reactions and triggers with no emotional attachment or feelings for the patient, which most of them feel are irrational.) Doctors have more of a God complex if you ask me?

You... are a proverbial puzzle for them to figure out and unravel and when they can't... then they toss pills down your throat and keep you coming back for more complacent and easier to deal with...

I believe in therapy sometimes in combination with medication (when the patient is not willing or able to accept healing any other way.)

and sometimes without medication (when the patient is able to realize their problems and make an attempt to change their behavior and realize their skills and notice their triggers.) depending entirely upon the skills and knowledge of the therapist.

In my personal experience... I don't care for doctors of psychiatry... I prefer plain old therapists... They are better at pretending to give a sh*it... if you ask me.

Hell if you pay me money I'll listen to you too.

Good deal if you ask me.
