I don't think greed and theism are genetic, no more than a rapist or murderer are born that way. Is God partial or impartial? Does he program good or bad into us before we are born? That would not justify His divine attribute of Love.
Does a very small child really conceptualize what is good or bad or have a desire to worship a creator!
Peoples characters are formed because of their upbringing, what they are influenced by and what and who they choose to become, whether they are greedy or generous, atheist or theist.

You need to separate religion, in paricular the catholic church and its 1700 years of greed, murder, power and corruption from a general belief in a higher power (theism).

Prior to the creation of christianity by Paul of Tarsus and the same Jewish High Priests who had Jesus crucified and his brother murdered (James the Just), no religion had ever existed that claimed a moral right to "kill in the name of love".

However, christianity is a strange beast in historical sense of believing in god (theism) as it has always spoken with opposing and mixed messages. Wars were started by Popes giving "blessings" to "return to God's mercy" those who opposed them.

Such flowery and peaceful language has always masked the blood lust and greed of such an organization.

So, I would definately consider greed and religion as cultural, not genetic.

Catholics believe the desire for God is written in the human heart (or genes, if you like), because each person is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw each person to himself.

Greed on the other hand is a sin in direct conflict with the love of God written on our hearts.

With love in Christ.
